DevOps Engineer II (Compute)

NewBe an early applicant

Summary

DevOps Engineer II who designs, builds, and operates AWS cloud infrastructure and shared Kubernetes compute platforms for engineering teams. Day to day involves Terraform/Terragrunt IaC, GitOps with ArgoCD on EKS, automation, observability, incident response/on-call, and developer experience improvements.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a DevOps Engineer II (Compute) based in Brazil.

As a DevOps Engineer II, you will design, build, and operate reliable cloud infrastructure and shared compute platforms that support high-quality software delivery. You will work extensively with AWS, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and modern GitOps practices to create scalable and resilient environments. The role combines hands-on engineering with automation, troubleshooting, observability, and developer experience improvements. You will partner closely with engineering teams to turn application requirements into secure, reliable, and cost-conscious infrastructure solutions. You will contribute to production reliability through monitoring, incident response, staged deployments, and continuous improvement. This is an opportunity to grow as a versatile, polyglot engineer while working with cloud-native technologies in a distributed global team. You will also have the chance to leverage AI tools and modern engineering practices to improve workflows and operational efficiency.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, build, operate, and continuously improve reliable cloud infrastructure and shared compute platforms using AWS.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code with Terraform and Terragrunt, using reusable modules and consistent engineering standards.
  • Deploy and operate containerized workloads on Kubernetes and Amazon EKS using GitOps practices and ArgoCD.
  • Automate recurring operational activities through maintainable code and tooling that improves reliability, repeatability, and engineering self-service.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure, networking, capacity, database connectivity, and deployment issues across development and production environments.
  • Use metrics, logs, traces, and alerts to monitor system health, investigate incidents, identify root causes, and validate infrastructure improvements.
  • Participate in code reviews and staged deployments, testing changes in lower environments before promoting them to production.
  • Partner with application engineering teams to understand technical requirements and deliver secure, scalable, reliable, and cost-conscious infrastructure solutions.
  • Document operational procedures, system architecture, troubleshooting guidance, and technical knowledge to enable effective team collaboration and self-service.
  • Participate in the DevOps on-call rotation, respond to incidents, and implement follow-up improvements designed to prevent recurring failures.
  • Contribute to improving developer experience by identifying friction in testing, deployment, local development, and operational workflows.
  • Design and deliver small technical initiatives or epics end-to-end while maintaining strong standards for quality, performance, and reliability.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
    • 2–4 years of professional experience in software engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, platform engineering, or a closely related field.
    • Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Go, Python, Java, TypeScript, or Ruby, with a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality solutions.
    • Comfortable working across unfamiliar systems and writing maintainable automation to improve operational efficiency.
    • Hands-on experience with AWS, Linux, and core cloud concepts including compute, networking, IAM, storage, and managed databases.
    • Practical experience with containers and Kubernetes, including deploying or operating workloads on Amazon EKS or a comparable managed Kubernetes platform.
    • Experience with infrastructure as code and modern delivery workflows using technologies such as Terraform, Terragrunt, Git, GitLab CI, and ArgoCD.
    • Demonstrated ability to use AI-powered tools to improve engineering workflows, streamline execution, or enhance technical outputs.
    • Ability to estimate, design, and deliver technical initiatives independently from planning through completion.
    • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with distributed engineering teams.
    • Curiosity, initiative, and an ownership mindset when investigating and solving complex technical problems.
    • Genuine interest in cloud infrastructure, compute platforms, automation, and operational reliability.
    • Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Broad technical curiosity and a demonstrated willingness to experiment, learn new technologies, and take on unfamiliar challenges.
    • Willingness to learn Ruby, which is the primary technology used across the broader engineering environment.
    • Benefits

      • Compensation starting at $4,800 USD per month.
      • Fully remote opportunity for professionals based in Brazil.
      • Flexible, take-as-needed scheduled time off and paid holidays.
      • Company-provided MacBook ready from day one.
      • $500 workspace stipend to help create an effective home working environment.
      • Equity opportunity in a rapidly growing, venture-backed organization.
      • Opportunity to work with a globally distributed team spanning multiple countries and cultures.
      • Support for learning Ruby, including potential mentoring from experienced engineers or access to a paid online course completed during working hours as part of onboarding.
      • Culture focused on innovation, collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.
      • Opportunity to work on cloud-native infrastructure, compute platforms, automation, reliability, and modern engineering practices.
      • Strong focus on professional growth and supporting team members in developing their careers.
      • Inclusive and equal-opportunity environment committed to diversity and belonging.
