Summary
Senior DevOps engineer, placed by ITech Consult AG with a bank in Zurich, who builds and evolves a centralized observability platform in a hybrid, highly regulated environment. Day to day: defining the OpenTelemetry approach (collector/gateway pipelines), maintaining Terraform modules and Helm charts, and driving IaC/GitOps automation across on-premises and Azure.

For a bank in Zurich, we are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer with a strong focus on observability platforms, OpenTelemetry, Infrastructure as Code, and GitOps. In this role, you will support the development and evolution of a centralized observability platform within a hybrid, highly regulated IT environment. You will work on production-oriented solution architecture, define technical concepts and standards, and ensure the platform is scalable, automated, secure, and independently usable by DevOps teams.
Responsibilities:
- Contributing to the product-focused solution architecture of the central observability platform
- Conceptualizing, standardizing, and implementing the OpenTelemetry approach
- Building OTEL pipelines, collector and gateway architectures, and best-practice configurations
- Further developing the platform using Infrastructure as Code and GitOps
- Creating and maintaining Terraform modules, configuration templates, and Helm charts
- Integrating the observability solution into on-premises and Azure environments
- Addressing network, security, IAM, compliance, and regulatory requirements
- Designing and implementing automated onboarding processes for platform and application teams
- Supporting pilot onboardings, PoC, and PoV activities
- Collaborating on migration scenarios and target architecture mappings to replace existing legacy solutions
- Integrating with ITSM processes such as incident, event, and CMDB management
- Collaborating with Enterprise Architecture, Platform Engineering, Security, Risk, Compliance, ITSM, and Project Management teams
- Coaching internal DevOps teams and creating technical operational and security documentation
Experience:
- 5 to 8 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, Solution Architect, or Platform Engineer in the observability domain
- Experience with observability platforms in production and regulated environments, ideally within banking or insurance
- Proven practical experience with modern observability stacks in production environments
- In-depth experience with OpenTelemetry, particularly the OTEL Collector, gateway architecture, pipelines, configuration, operation, and scaling
- Experience designing and building hybrid platforms involving on-premises infrastructure and Azure
- Knowledge of Kubernetes platforms such as AKS or OpenShift
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and GitOps, specifically Terraform, Helm, or Git-based workflows
- Experience with ITSM integration, particularly incident, event, and CMDB processes
- Solid understanding of security and compliance requirements in the financial sector (e.g., FINMA, BYOK, data residency, RBAC, or IAM)
- Ability to develop technical concepts, standards, and designs suitable for automation in a structured manner
- Experience collaborating with architecture, platform, security, compliance, ITSM, and application teams
- Experience with agile methodologies (such as SAFe) as well as Jira and Confluence is an advantage
- Very good German language skills (C1 level)
- Good English language skills (B2 level)
