DevOps Engineer

PBT Group is looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team in Cape Town on a hybrid basis.

This role forms part of a technology team responsible for the development, management and support of key applications. The successful candidate will have strong AWS experience, together with solid expertise in CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, containerisation and automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, manage and enhance CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps.

• Provision, manage and scale AWS cloud resources, using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.

• Deploy and manage applications using Docker and Kubernetes (K8s).

• Implement and maintain monitoring, logging and alerting solutions, including AWS services such as CloudWatch.

• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis and implement preventative measures.

• Automate application deployment and operational processes to improve reliability and efficiency.

• Apply DevSecOps principles throughout the development and deployment lifecycle, including access controls and vulnerability management.

• Work closely with Software Development, Infrastructure and Operations teams to ensure smooth and reliable software delivery.

• Contribute to technical solution design and application architecture where required.

• Support continuous improvement of development, deployment and operational processes.

Key Requirements

• Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role.

• Strong hands-on AWS experience is essential.

• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps.

• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation.

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Experience with cloud monitoring, logging and alerting, preferably AWS CloudWatch.

• Good understanding of DevOps and DevSecOps practices.

• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

• Experience working across Development, Infrastructure and Operations teams.

• Strong problem-solving, collaboration and communication skills.

Advantageous

• AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field.

• Experience within financial services or other enterprise technology environments.
