DevOps Engineer
Our client, an IT services, software development, and dataengineering consulting company, is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join their team.
Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain the organisation's cloud architecture strategy, standards, reference architectures and technology roadmaps
- Design end-to-end cloud solutions aligned with business objectives, application requirements, enterprise architecture and technology standards
- Develop secure, scalable, highly available, resilient and cost-effective architectures across AWS, Azure and/or other major cloud platforms
- Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and recommend solutions that improve business agility, scalability, reliability and operational efficiency
- Establish cloud architecture principles, design patterns, standards and best practices across the organisation
- Provide architectural governance and technical oversight throughout the solution lifecycle, from initial design through implementation and operations
- Lead and provide technical direction for cloud migration, application modernisation and infrastructure transformation programmes
- Assess existing on-premises applications and infrastructure and develop appropriate cloud migration strategies and roadmaps
- Define migration approaches such as rehost, replatform, refactor, repurchase and retire based on business, technical and financial considerations
- Design target-state cloud architectures and migration patterns for enterprise applications, databases, infrastructure and services
- Identify opportunities to modernise legacy platforms through cloud-native services, containers, serverless technologies and managed services
- Work with project and engineering teams to ensure successful migration, implementation and transition into production
- Design cloud infrastructure covering compute, storage, networking, databases, identity, security, monitoring, backup and disaster recovery
- Design and implement cloud landing zones, account/subscription structures, network architecture, governance models and security guardrails
- Develop architectures using containers and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes where appropriate
- Promote Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation using technologies such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Bicep/ARM or equivalent
- Establish standards for cloud environments, configuration management, automation, monitoring, logging and operational support
- Provide technical guidance on hybrid and multi-cloud architectures where required
- Incorporate security principles and controls into cloud architecture and solution design from the outset
- Ensure cloud architectures comply with organisational policies, regulatory requirements and applicable industry standards
- Conduct architecture and security reviews to identify risks, vulnerabilities, compliance gaps and technical debt
- Design appropriate backup, business continuity and disaster recovery solutions to meet agreed Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
- Ensure confidentiality, integrity, availability and appropriate protection of enterprise data and workloads
- Design highly available and resilient cloud environments with appropriate scalability, redundancy and disaster recovery capabilities
- Establish cloud performance, availability and capacity standards and continuously identify opportunities for improvement
- Monitor and optimise cloud consumption, resource utilisation and infrastructure costs
- Evaluate technology options based on total cost of ownership, performance, scalability, security and operational requirements
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve the efficiency and reliability of cloud operations.
- Review and approve technical and solution architecture designs to ensure compliance with enterprise standards
- Produce architecture diagrams, technical specifications, reference architectures, design documents and implementation roadmaps.
- Maintain architecture documentation, technology standards and cloud service catalogues.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3-5 years experience in IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, solution architecture or enterprise architecture
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale cloud solutions
- Proven experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure; exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of cloud computing models including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and cloud-native services.
- Demonstrated experience with cloud migration, infrastructure modernisation and transformation programmes.
- Experience working with enterprise architecture frameworks, governance processes and technology standards.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect and Microsoft Certified - Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent preferred
