Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join the Propylon LWB 360 team and help design, build, automate, and operate our cloud infrastructure.

This role has a strong focus on AWS, Terraform, Linux, Docker, and infrastructure automation. You will play an important role in designing and maintaining reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure while working closely with development and product teams.

  • Write infrastructure code and tooling that other engineers can safely reuse.

  • Take ownership of problems from investigation through to resolution.
  • Can explain technical decisions and their trade-offs.
  • Care about reliability, security, maintainability and operational excellence.

The role provides an opportunity to work across cloud, operating systems, networking, containerisation, and automation layers, troubleshooting complex production issues and continuously improving the reliability and maintainability of our environments.

AWS: EC2, ECS, ECR, S3, CloudFront, ALB, VPC, Transit Gateway, IAM, routing, NAT and security groups.Infrastructure & Automation: Terraform, Ansible, Python and Git-based infrastructure workflows.Systems & Networking: Debian/Ubuntu Linux, Docker, nginx, StrongSwan/IPSec, TCP/IP, DNS, routing, NAT and firewalls.

Job Overview

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Develop and maintain reusable, internally owned Terraform modules and infrastructure patterns.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Linux-based production systems.
  • Build and operate containerised workloads using Docker and AWS ECS.
  • Manage Docker images and registries using Amazon ECR.
  • Design and troubleshoot AWS networking, including VPCs, routing, ALBs, Transit Gateway, NAT, security groups and IAM.
  • Configure and troubleshoot IPSec VPN connections, including StrongSwan-based deployments.
  • Configure and maintain nginx-based services and reverse proxies.
  • Automate infrastructure configuration and operational tasks using Ansible and Python.
  • Investigate production incidents across application, operating system, networking, container and cloud infrastructure layers.
  • Improve infrastructure reliability, security, observability, performance and maintainability.
  • Contribute to CI/CD and Git-based infrastructure and deployment workflows.
  • Review infrastructure changes and contribute to technical design decisions.
  • Reduce manual operations through automation and better tooling.
  • Document infrastructure architecture, operational procedures and reusable solutions.
  • Support operational issues and BAU activities across the platform.

Requirements:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Terraform, including modules, state, providers, dependencies, lifecycle and infrastructure design.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, particularly EC2, ECS, ECR, S3, CloudFront, ALB, VPC networking and IAM.
  • Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, preferably Debian/Ubuntu.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP, routing, DNS, NAT, firewalls and VPN concepts.
  • Practical experience with Docker and containerised applications.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting nginx.
  • Experience with Ansible and infrastructure automation.
  • Ability to write automation and operational tooling using Python.
  • Experience troubleshooting real production environments across multiple infrastructure layers.
  • Good understanding of Git-based development and infrastructure workflows.

Highly Valuable:

  • AWS Transit Gateway and multi-VPC or multi-account network architectures.
  • IPSec VPNs / StrongSwan.
  • Designing reusable Terraform modules for multiple environments or teams.
  • Production experience with AWS ECS.
  • AWS security and IAM design.
  • Network troubleshooting using tools such as tcpdump, ss, dig, curl, openssl and traceroute.
  • Designing highly available and resilient cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with CI/CD, monitoring, observability and incident response.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch or similar technologies.
