DevOps Engineer

Description

Investec is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior DevOps Engineer to join the Client Technology division. This individual will play a pivotal role in advancing our DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), observability and cloud platform. The successful candidate will be responsible for building reliable, secure, scalable, and compliant platforms through automation, engineering excellence, and governance. They will enable modern software delivery practices, improve operational resilience, govern enterprise Power Platform environments, and support the broader platform engineering strategy within a highly regulated financial services environment.

Site Reliability Engineering & Operational Excellence

  • Improve platform reliability, availability and performance through best-practice SRE principles.
  • Lead incident response for critical production incidents, including root cause analysis and preventative action planning.
  • Develop fault-tolerant architectures, disaster recovery capabilities and resilience strategies.
  • Create and maintain operational runbooks, support documentation and recovery procedures.
  • Perform capacity planning, forecasting and performance optimisation activities.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve production readiness and operational excellence.

Observability, Monitoring & Insights

  • Design and implement enterprise monitoring, logging and alerting solutions.
  • Define and manage Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Analyse platform telemetry and system metrics to proactively identify trends and risks.
  • Optimise alerting frameworks to reduce noise and improve incident response effectiveness.
  • Implement comprehensive observability practices across cloud and business-critical platforms

Azure Cloud Engineering & Security

  • Provision and manage Azure services using Infrastructure as Code approaches.
  • Implement secure cloud patterns using Managed Identities, Azure AD, Service Principals and Azure Key Vault.
  • Support Azure integration capabilities and enterprise platform services.
  • Design and maintain secure networking architectures and connectivity patterns.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements and compliance controls.
  • Embed security, governance and compliance into platform engineering practices.

Platform Governance & Compliance

  • Drive enterprise governance standards across cloud and low-code platforms.
  • Define and enforce:
    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies
    • Environment management standards
    • Solution lifecycle governance
    • Role-based access controls
    • Platform operating models
  • Monitor platform usage, licensing and operational health.
  • Support audit, risk and compliance activities.
  • Ensure adherence to financial services regulatory requirements and organisational controls.

Experience, skill and capability

  • 8+ years' experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering or related disciplines.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD, automation and modern software delivery practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture, networking, security and platform operations.
  • Experience with monitoring, observability and operational resilience practices.
  • Demonstrated experience operating within regulated and security-conscious environments.
  • Experience implementing governance, compliance and risk controls across technology platforms.

Highly Advantageous

  • Enterprise Content Management experience.
  • Azure Integration Services experience including Logic Apps, Service Bus, Functions and API Management.
  • Hands-on experience with DevSecOps tooling and secure SDLC practices.
  • Experience working within platform enablement teams.
  • Knowledge of financial services regulatory requirements and audit frameworks.
