DevOps Engineer
Summary
DevOps engineer on a UK central government digital transformation programme: design and run AWS cloud infrastructure, automate provisioning and CI/CD pipelines, and operate Java-based microservices with monitoring, security and resilience. Requires strong AWS, IaC, CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes and public-sector experience.
In this role, you enable and sustain cloud-native infrastructure and deployment platforms for a central government digital transformation programme. You will work in an AWS and Java environment to build, optimise and operate critical public-facing services. You’ll design scalable infrastructure, automate provisioning and CI/CD pipelines, and ensure security, reliability and resilience. You join a cross-functional team, collaborating with Architects, Developers, Security and Delivery teams to deliver secure, compliant cloud solutions. Responsibilities- Design, implement and maintain infrastructure across AWS environments
- Build and support CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable software delivery
- Automate provisioning, configuration and deployment
- Support Java-based applications and microservices
- Implement monitoring, alerting and logging to maintain platform reliability and performance
- Support platform security, compliance and operational resilience
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment and performance issues across environments
- Promote DevOps best practices, automation and continuous improvement
- Support disaster recovery, backup and business continuity activities
- Collaborate with Architects, Developers, Security and Delivery teams
- Proven DevOps Engineer with large-scale digital transformation experience
- Strong Central Government/public sector experience
- Significant hands-on AWS experience
- Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation or similar)
- CI/CD pipelines experience (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps or similar)
- Experience supporting Java-based applications and microservices
- Strong Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Python or similar)
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of monitoring/logging (CloudWatch, Grafana, ELK, Prometheus)
