DevSecOps SME

  • Senior DevSecOps Engineer/Subject Matter Expert (SME)

  • Initial 6 Month Day Rate Contract

  • Flexible, hybrid-work environment

Our client is a leading organisation looking for a DevSecOps Engineer / SME who can own the technical depth of their DevSecOps practice, someone who can build, harden and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines while embedding security controls end-to-end across the SDLC.

The platform and pipelines are in place. Now they need a hands-on subject matter expert who can go deep on Azure DevOps and Azure Cloud, solve complex pipeline and security integration problems, and set the technical standard the rest of the team builds against.

As a Senior DevSecOps Engineer/SME, you will:

  • Own the technical depth of DevSecOps delivery, designing, building and hardening CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps across a range of tech stacks

  • Embed security controls and testing directly into the pipeline (SAST, DAST, SCA and beyond), owning the integration end-to-end rather than just overseeing it

  • Act as the go-to technical authority on source code management and branching strategy, setting and evolving the standards delivery teams work to

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex, real-world pipeline, security and integration issues, applying strong software engineering fundamentals

  • Apply AI and agentic tooling to uplift DevOps practice, improving pipeline intelligence, automating security triage, and assisting remediation

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to delivery squads and support senior stakeholders with deep, credible subject matter expertise

  • Continuously evaluate and pilot new tools, security capabilities and automation approaches to keep the DevSecOps practice technically current

What You'll Bring:

Must Have:

  • Strong hands-on Azure DevOps experience, pipeline authoring, CI/CD design, security integration (not just oversight)

  • Solid Azure Cloud experience across relevant services and security tooling

  • Genuine, end-to-end experience with source code management and branching strategies, able to design, implement and set standards across delivery teams, not just work within a strategy someone else set up

  • Deep, hands-on experience embedding security controls and testing into CI/CD pipelines, with real examples of building DevSecOps solutions from scratch

  • Practical experience using AI/GenAI to uplift DevOps practices e.g. AI-assisted security triage, agentic PR review, intelligent pipeline automation, LLM-assisted remediation

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals (coding, APIs, integrations) with the ability to build pipelines across tech stacks you haven't worked with before

  • Strong communication skills, able to act as a credible technical authority with senior stakeholders and delivery teams

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with security scanning tools (SAST, DAST, SCA) embedded in pipelines

  • IaC experience (Terraform, Bicep or similar)

  • Containerisation and orchestration (Docker, AKS)

  • Agentic AI experimentation in an SDLC or DevSecOps context

Benefits:

  • Competitive day rate contract

  • Deep, hands-on technical work at the intersection of DevSecOps and AI

  • Flexible hybrid work arrangements

  • Genuine opportunity to be the technical authority shaping a major organisation's DevSecOps practice
