Didactics and Learning Activities Specialist

Summary

Designs and delivers STEM learning resources, teacher training, and project-based activities for ESA’s education programs, including workshops and e-learning courses.

We are looking for a ​Didactics and Learning Activities Specialist​ to complete our consultants Workforce Management Service to support the ​STEM Learning & Inspiration Programme​ of the European Space Agency (ESA) at their location in Libin, Belgium​. The purpose of this role is to ​support the Learn with Space activity with coordination, production and delivery of didactics activities such as teaching and learning resources and teacher & educator training events. Additionally, the role provides support to the design, coordination and delivery of project-based learning activities​.

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at the interview stage).

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

Didactics and international teacher engagement

  • Design, produce (or coordinate the production of), test, deliver/show case and evaluate innovative pilot didactics concepts (teaching / learning resources) for both formal (school) and non-formal environments;

  • Implement the design, planning, production (or coordination of the production) and delivery of initiatives aimed at the international engagement of teachers and educators - either at ESA facilities or at facilities indicated by ESA – consisting of:

    • Teacher training and workshops;

    • E-learning courses;

    • Other forms of teachers’ engagement such as an online platform for a community of practice or similar;

    • Management of the dedicated shared inbox.

  • For each of the training activities described above, design an evaluation survey for completion by the training participants; use the results of these surveys to prepare concise evaluation reports (PowerPoint presentation) that include lessons learned, recommendations and opportunities for the improvement for the STEM Learning and Inspiration Programme concerning training and didactics.

    International project-based learning activities

  • Support the international management, implementation and evolution of the ongoing ESAESERO project-based learning activities, including the annual interdisciplinary school projects (CanSat, Astro Pi, Mission X, Climate Detectives, Moon Camp) by:

    • generating and/or updating the general project guidelines, calendar and classroom resources – including in e-learning format - for each project on an annual basis;

    • maintaining and keeping the content of the central ESA online platforms dedicated to each of the projects listed above up to date;

    • ensuring the availability of, and access to, the basic set of tools (e.g. software) required to run the projects and provide inputs for the evolution of such tools (in terms of usability and user-friendliness for educational purposes), by liaising with the experts and/or providers indicated by ESA;

    • communicating and interacting with participating project teams, their educators and with the project partners to ensure the smooth implementation of each project;

    • providing inputs for the definition of requirements (SOW) that can be used by ESA for the procurement of additional supporting services to such project-based learning activities;

    • providing training to educators and project partners requested by ESEROs on each of the projects and on the tools and resources used;

    • organizing events (in presence and online) during key-project phases from the logistics and content point of view;

    • providing inputs to the definition and updates of the visual identity/branding assets associated with each of the projects and monitor their consistent implementation by the project partners (such as the ESEROs).

    Provide inputs to the design of new project-based learning activities including concept, subject knowledge, didactics expertise, planning and organization. If such activities are adopted by ESA, support their implementation as described above.

  • Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, STEM Education, Science Communication, Educational Sciences, Pedagogy, or another relevant discipline;

  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in the design, development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of educational, training or STEM learning activities;

  • Experience teaching in schools is a plus;

  • Proven experience in developing didactic resources, training materials and learning activities for formal and/or non-formal education environments;

  • Proven experience in planning, organising and delivering teacher and educator training activities, workshops, conferences or professional development programmes;

  • Experience in project coordination involving multiple stakeholders, including educational institutions, public organisations, international partners or networks;

  • Previous experience working for ESA, ESERO, EU institutions, international organisations, or within a comparable multinational environment is a plus;

  • Familiarity with ESA Education programmes, Learn with Space initiatives, ESERO activities, and project-based learning programmes such as CanSat, Astro Pi, Mission X, Climate Detectives or Moon Camp is a plus;

  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in STEM education, instructional design, digital learning and teacher professional development is a plus;

  • Experience supporting outreach, science communication and educational engagement initiatives related to space, science and technology is a plus;

  • Experience working in multicultural and international educational projects is a plus;

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially PowerPoint, Excel and Word), collaboration platforms, online meeting tools, and electronic communication systems;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with institutional stakeholders, educators, experts, project partners and international communities;

  • Ability to prepare evaluation surveys, analyse feedback and participation data, and produce concise reports containing lessons learned and recommendations;

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, work autonomously and maintain high quality standards under demanding workloads;

  • Strong organisational skills, reliability, attention to detail and commitment to delivering activities according to established procedures and deadlines;

  • Demonstrated team spirit, proactive attitude, flexibility and problem-solving capability;

  • Candidates must be eligible to work and live in the EU;

  • Fluency in English both written and spoken.
