Die Cast Designer (GDE)
Summary
Designs die cast dies and tooling in Siemens NX, producing 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings; develops cooling, gating, venting, and ejection concepts from customer part data and works with simulation, machining, and toolmaking teams on tryouts, troubleshooting, and revisions for automotive and aerospace customers.
- Design complete die cast dies and tooling components using Siemens NX, including 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
- Develop tooling concepts from customer part data and engineering specifications, incorporating cooling, venting, gating, overflow, and ejection systems.
- Collaborate with simulation engineers to optimize metal filling, solidification, and overall tool performance.
- Support tool tryout activities, troubleshoot tooling issues, and implement design revisions and corrective modifications as needed.
- Participate in design reviews and customer meetings to evaluate tooling feasibility, address engineering changes, and improve designs.
- Maintain accurate tooling documentation, revision control, and engineering records.
- Ensure designs meet company standards, customer specifications, safety requirements, and industry best practices while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- You will work closely with engineering, simulation, machining, toolmaking, and production teams to develop die designs that meet customer requirements, support manufacturability, and deliver reliable performance.
- Proficiency with Siemens NX CAD software, including 3D modeling and drafting.
- 3 years of die cast tooling design experience preferred.
- Knowledge of tool steel selection, cooling systems, gating design, and ejection methods.
- Familiarity with CNC machining processes, tooling manufacturing methods, and product data management (PDM) systems.
- Ability to interpret customer CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Experience with high-pressure die casting (HPDC), aluminum, magnesium, or zinc tooling, automotive manufacturing, engineering change management, or APQP, PPAP, and IATF 16949 requirements is a plus.
