Summary:
The Dietitian plays a pivotal role within CanKids KidsCan’s Treatment Support Program, delivering specialized nutritional care to pediatric oncology patients across inpatient, outpatient, and critical care settings. This position is central to improving treatment outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for children battling cancer and their families. By designing individualized nutrition plans, conducting comprehensive assessments, and leading education initiatives, the Dietitian ensures that every child receives tailored dietary support that complements their medical treatment. The role also involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, rigorous documentation, and active participation in research, training, and outreach activities. As a key contributor to CanKids’ mission of achieving 100% Access2Care and 100% Financial Protection by 2030, the Dietitian helps advance holistic, patient-centered care aligned with WHO GICC and Sustainable Development Goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough nutritional assessments and develop personalized meal plans for pediatric oncology patients across IPD, OPD, and ICU settings.
  • Deliver Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) through daily rounds, 24-hour recall analysis, and nutrition chart preparation.
  • Implement and monitor the Dry Nutritional Supplement Program with accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Maintain a comprehensive repository of nutritional data, recipes, and patient records.
  • Design and display hygiene posters and support the development of Health and Hygiene Kit programs in hospital wards.
  • Coordinate with hospital teams and blood donation camps to support hematological care needs.
  • Lead and deliver group education sessions for patients and caregivers three times weekly and monthly talks during parent support group meetings.
  • Train new staff, interns, and joiners on hospital nutrition protocols and best practices.
  • Oversee Mid-Day Meal (MDM) distribution, ensuring hygiene, quality, and timely delivery; coordinate with vendors and modify recipes based on patient needs and seasonality.
  • Identify eligible patients for special nutritional supplements, manage procurement, and facilitate donor coordination.
  • Participate in monthly team meetings, prepare reports, and raise indents for supply management.
  • Document baseline nutrition status, analyze quarterly data, and contribute to nutrition-based research and audit activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Reporting Manager.

Requirements

Requirements:
  • Post Graduate degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a closely related field
  • 2–3 years of experience in clinical or pediatric dietetics, preferably within hospital or NGO environments
  • In-depth knowledge of nutrition science, diet planning, and medical nutrition therapy
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex dietary concepts
  • Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity in patient interactions
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting
  • Organized, proactive, and detail-oriented with strong recordkeeping and reporting capabilities
  • Experience in training, education delivery, and program implementation in healthcare or community-based settings
