Job Summary

The Registered Dietitian will provide and direct dietary services to people with intellectual disabilities to include assessment and treatment, development and implementation, and related professional in-services. Work as an interdisciplinary team member to implement support plans that facilitate people in reaching their full potential. Comply with all Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) regulations. Provide critical competency based teaching to care givers and management staff to facilitate continuity of care.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Flexible hours to be consistent with providing support to individuals in their natural environments: home, day program, school, and community. The teams follows the ICF/IID calendar.
  • Participate as a member of the Physical and Nutritional Management Team in such a manner as to promote the effectiveness of the Team to meet its stated mission. Interact with the PNM Team members in such a manner as to enhance the professional development of self and other team members.
  • Act as an advocate for the health, safety, and quality of life for all ICF individuals as a member of their Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
  • Function as a member of the comprehensive assessment process providing data collection analysis and functional recommendations for individuals, and maintain appropriate documentation of follow through on recommended actions.
  • Provide detailed nutritional assessment for individuals living in the ICF/IID group homes.
  • Monitor and evaluate ongoing nutritional status, and maintain adequate documentation and paperwork.
  • Develop nutrition guidelines for modified diets.
  • Provide in-services and counseling to the support staff, the individual, the family, and other supports to coordinate the medical nutrition therapy needs into their everyday life and ensure the person receives correct therapeutic diet and texture to meet health needs.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all in-services, competency check-offs, and progress notes.
  • Provide written information about individuals, referencing plans and guidelines, to the ICF QIDP for inclusion in the ISP.
  • Review draft (if applicable) for correct information. Review final document for correct information, and provide written corrections to the QIDP.
  • Provide food service support for group homes, including education and in-service training, menu development, shopping, food preparation, recipe modification, food safety, and other ICF requirements.
  • Order and maintain the inventory of supplements and thick-it for individuals in the ICF homes.
  • Assist in instruction of Mealtime Challenges Classes with other qualified instructors.
  • Participate in continuing education to further professional skills related to nutrition practice in the field of developmental disabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
