Digital Consumer Experience (CX) Designer, R&D
Description
About the Team
We are an innovative global healthcare company driven by one purpose: to chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives. With a presence in more than 100 countries, our teams are dedicated to transforming the practice of medicine and turning the impossible into the possible.
Sanofi is on an ambitious digital transformation journey, accelerating data-driven innovation and the adoption of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning across R&D, manufacturing, and commercial operations.
As a CX Designer within Digital R&D, you will help shape intuitive, effective digital experiences that support this transformation. You will work as part of a global Consumer Experience (CX) team and partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, and business stakeholders across a complex, matrixed organization.
About You
- You are a product designer who combines strong interaction and visual design skills with sound product judgment.
- You are comfortable working in an environment where requirements may not always arrive fully defined. You know how to ask the right questions, identify what information is missing, create structure from ambiguity, and move work forward without waiting for every detail to be provided.
- You bring a design point of view to the table rather than simply executing requirements. You can translate business and user needs into clear experience recommendations, communicate the rationale behind your decisions, and work constructively with Product and Engineering to refine solutions.
- You are organized, proactive, and reliable. You communicate clearly, manage priorities effectively, follow through on commitments, and raise risks or changes early.
Key Responsibilities
- Own product design work from problem definition through detailed design and development handoff.
- Partner with Product to understand the business problem, user needs, constraints, and desired outcomes, then develop and recommend appropriate experience solutions.
- Conduct lightweight research, competitive review, benchmarking, and design exploration as needed to inform decisions.
- Create clear information architecture, user journeys, flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that show how the overall experience fits together.
- Balance product-level thinking with attention to interaction, visual design, content, edge cases, and error states.
- Work iteratively with Product and Engineering, sharing work early, incorporating feedback, and refining solutions rather than waiting for perfect inputs.
- Clearly communicate design recommendations, decisions, Progress, risks, and next steps in meetings and written documentation.
- Prioritize effectively across competing requests and stay focused on agreed product and delivery priorities.
- Maintain design documentation and specifications that are clear enough for Product, Engineering, and other designers to use.
- Participate actively in Agile ways of working, including planning, reviews, demos, and cross-functional discussions.
- Apply and contribute to Sanofi design systems, standards, and the One Sanofi Experience.
- Use AI-enabled design and prototyping tools thoughtfully to accelerate exploration and execution while applying independent design judgment to the final outcome.
- Build productive working relationships across global and local teams and contribute to a collaborative design culture.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Design, HCI, or related field.
- 3+ years of product, UX, or interaction design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating your design process and shipped digital products.
- Strong product design fundamentals, including interaction design, information architecture, user flows, prototyping, and visual design.
- Demonstrated ability to work through complex or ambiguous problems and turn them into clear, actionable design solutions.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek input, alignment, or support.
- Experience partnering directly with Product Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain design decisions clearly and concisely.
- Strong prioritization, organization, and follow-through across multiple workstreams.
- Experience with iterative design and Agile product development.
- Proficiency with Figma and collaborative design tools such as FigJam or Miro.
- Experience working with design systems and responsive digital products.
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping and AI-enabled design tools.
- Working knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is helpful.
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, enterprise products, or other complex domains is a plus.
What will help you succeed
Success in this role requires more than strong design craft. You should be able to create clarity from ambiguity, exercise sound judgment, communicate proactively, manage commitments reliably, and build trust with the people you work with.
You will be expected to bring recommendations rather than only identify problems, maintain focus on agreed priorities, and help move the product forward through thoughtful, collaborative design.
