This is a *UK* Hybrid based role with an excellent immediate start within a Public Sector organisation working on *Designing, developing and maintaining Java-based software applications and services.*

Role Overview

We are seeking Java Developers to join a large-scale digital delivery team working on critical citizen-facing services.

As a Java Developer, you will design, develop and maintain high-quality software products within a multidisciplinary Agile team. You will translate business requirements into production-ready code, contribute to system design and ensure the applications you build are robust, resilient, secure and reliable.

You will work closely with other Software Engineers, Technical Architects and stakeholders throughout the Software Development Lifecycle, contributing to continuous improvement and best practice across the engineering community.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Java-based software applications and services.
• Transform business requirements and user needs into production-ready code.
• Develop reusable libraries, services and components.
• Build robust, resilient and highly maintainable systems.
• Develop comprehensive automated unit and integration tests.
• Identify and resolve technical issues that may affect delivery.
• Contribute to system and technical design activities.
• Work collaboratively with Software Engineers, Technical Architects and other delivery professionals.
• Produce clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
• Support infrastructure maintenance and operational activities.
• Provide 3rd-line support for developed products where required.
• Contribute to discussions around Software Engineering standards and best practice.
• Support continuous improvement across development processes and practices.
• Share knowledge and provide coaching or mentoring to colleagues where appropriate.

Essential Technical Skills

• Strong commercial experience developing applications using Java.
• Strong experience with Spring Boot.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-based application development.
• Experience working with Apache Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.
• Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of software development principles and the full Software Development Lifecycle.
• Experience writing automated unit and integration tests.
• Experience working within Agile multidisciplinary teams.
• Good understanding of software design, development, testing and documentation.
• Ability to work with existing codebases and troubleshoot complex technical issues.

Desirable Experience

• Experience developing large-scale, highly available digital services.
• Experience working with microservices architectures.
• Experience with CI/CD and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs.
• Experience with infrastructure or application maintenance in cloud environments.
• Experience providing production or 3rd-line application support.
• Experience working in large, complex organisations or public-facing digital services.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidates will be collaborative Software Engineers who are comfortable working across the full development life cycle. You should be able to take requirements, contribute to technical design, develop high-quality Java solutions, write automated tests and support applications through to production.

You should also be comfortable working with other technical and non-technical stakeholders and contributing to engineering best practice within an Agile environment.
