Digital Merchandising Specialist

Job Summary

Groomer's Choice is looking for a Digital Merchandising Specialist to own our product presentation and discovery on our e-commerce site. This is an individual-contributor role focused on the full digital storefront experience: product presentation, PDP quality, and cross-sell strategy first, and checkout/site-structure optimization second. The role sits in Marketing, with a dotted line into Product, so that the full site experience is owned by one team rather than split across disconnected functions. This person surfaces and analyzes signals — like search gap analysis — that inform product development priorities, but does not own the product roadmap or make product decisions; those calls stay with Product.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Visual & Web Merchandising (80% — Primary)

Add new products and brands to site. Work with product team to ensure impact features and benefits are clear to the customer

Own product presentation across the site: collections, category pages, featured/promoted placements, and merchandising rules

Monitor and improve PDP quality — content, imagery, structured data, and consistency across the catalog

Develop and execute cross-sell and upsell strategy (related products, bundles, on-site recommendations)

Use GA4 to identify underperforming products, categories, and digital merchandising. Identify and act on merchandising opportunities

Conduct search gap and competitor analysis and other on-site signal work, and feed findings to Product as input — not direction — for roadmap prioritization

Partner with the Head of Product to share merchandising insights and represent the full site experience in cross-functional planning

UI/UX Optimization (20% — Secondary)

Monitor checkout flow and site structure/navigation for friction points using GA4 and on-site behavior data

Make hands-on updates directly in Shopify (theme settings, layout, navigation) for straightforward improvements

Design and run tests to validate UX changes before rolling them out broadly

Partner with the Marketing Director and Head of Product on larger UX initiatives that go beyond this role's scope

Required Qualifications

3–5 years of experience in digital merchandising, ecommerce, UX, or a related digital marketing role

Hands-on Shopify experience — comfortable managing collections, products, merchandising rules, and making theme/settings changes directly

Hands-on GA4 experience — able to build reports, segment data, and translate findings into merchandising and UX decisions

Strong understanding of PDP best practices and cross-sell/upsell tactics for ecommerce

Working knowledge of UX principles for checkout flow and site structure/navigation

Ability to work cross-functionally and influence outcomes (e.g., with Product) without formal decision authority

Strong analytical and organizational skills; comfortable moving between data analysis and hands-on execution

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Shopify Plus

Collaborative, Accountable; ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment

Familiarity with behavioral/UX tools such as Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, or similar

Experience with on-site search and merchandising platforms

Experience in pet, home goods, or specialty retail

BA/BS in Marketing, Business, UX/Design, or a related field

Benefits (Full-Time)

  • 401(k) with company match
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Employer-Paid Life Insurance and AD&D
  • Accident Insurance
  • Hospital Indemnity Plan
  • Critical Illness Coverage
  • Voluntary Life & AD&D
  • Short-Term Disability
  • TELUS Health / LifeWorks Employee Assistance Program
  • Employee Discount Program
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid Holidays

This position is full-time, hourly/non-exempt, Monday - Friday and is on site in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
