Summary

Hands-on Digital Programme Manager (fixed term) at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa in Auckland, coordinating a digital transformation portfolio (EPC, SEF, MDI) — connecting plans, managing budgets and forecasts, risks and dependencies, vendors, and delivering decision-ready reporting for senior leaders.

Salary: $90000 - $130000

Fixed term | Digital transformation portfolio

Te Pae Tawhiti 2030 is the organisational strategy for Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, and delivering it requires significant transformation across the way we work.

At the centre of that transformation sits a portfolio of digital programmes: Enrolment and Pastoral Care Experience (EPC), Strengthening Enterprise Foundations (SEF), and Modernisation of Data Infrastructure (MDI). Together, these programmes are modernising core systems, processes and ways of working so that we can better serve our tauira, kaimahi and communities.

We are looking for an experienced Digital Programme Manager to provide the programme management discipline that helps keep this portfolio moving.

Mō tēnei mahi | About this job

This is a hands-on programme management role operating across a substantial and complex digital transformation portfolio.

You will provide rigour, visibility and coordination across digital delivery, ensuring plans are connected, dependencies are understood, risks and issues are actively managed, and leaders have clear information about progress and the decisions required of them.

You will work closely with our Digital Transformation Portfolio Director, Senior Programme Manager and digital programme teams, as well as colleagues leading change, communications and broader transformation activity.

Strong financial management capability is an important part of this role. You will manage programme budgets and forecasts, provide forecast-to-complete and variance reporting, support vendor and commercial management, and contribute to business cases and investment decisions. Financial clarity is a core part of what you will bring, not an administrative add-on.

You will also help connect our digital programmes to the wider Te Pae Tawhiti portfolio, ensuring technology delivery remains aligned with business change, organisational priorities and the outcomes we are seeking to achieve.

Mōu | About you

You will be an experienced programme manager with a strong track record in digital or technology-enabled transformation.

You know how to establish the structure and discipline required to deliver complex programmes without allowing programme process to become an end in itself. You are comfortable moving between programme plans, financials, risks and dependencies, governance reporting and conversations with senior stakeholders.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Significant programme management experience, ideally within digital or technology transformation
  • Experience delivering complex, multi-stream programmes
  • Strong programme budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting capability
  • Excellent risk, issue and dependency management
  • Experience preparing clear, decision-ready reporting for senior leaders and governance
  • Experience managing vendors, commercial arrangements and programme expenditure
  • Sound knowledge of agile and hybrid delivery approaches
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical environments
  • The ability to bring structure and clarity to complex and fast-moving delivery

Mō mātou | About us

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is a kaupapa Māori organisation. Our work is grounded in Kaupapa Matua and Ngā Uara: Te Aroha, Te Whakapono, Ngā Ture and Kotahitanga.

We expect our kaimahi to demonstrate genuine commitment to those values through how they work and build relationships. Experience working in kaupapa Māori or bicultural environments is highly valued, alongside a commitment to continuing to develop your capability in te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.

Kua whati te tai, tono mai! | Apply today!

The digital transformation portfolio is live and moving. You will not be setting it up from scratch; you will be helping shape how a significant programme of digital change is delivered and lands across the organisation.

There is real scope to influence how the portfolio is managed, how risks and dependencies are addressed, how investment is understood, and how digital delivery connects with the wider organisational transformation.

If you are a disciplined and pragmatic digital programme manager who enjoys complex delivery and wants to do meaningful work in an organisation where people, culture and outcomes matter, we would like to hear from you.
