Direct Support Professional
Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is an active member of a team providing supported living services to individuals with developmental disabilities. The Direct Support Professional works under the direction of the Community Living Coordinator.
Essential Functions
- Provide the member with professional direct support, supervision and skill training, as identified in the member’s Plan of Care (POC). Areas may include, but are not limited to:
- Personal hygiene
- Meal Planning and Preparation
- Clothing Care
- Social Skills
- Transportation
- Communication
- Medication Administration
- Personal Safety
- Money Management
- Home Maintenance/Housekeeping
- Recreation
- Community Inclusion
- Communicate effectively with the member’s family.
- Provide informal counseling and promote self-advocacy.
- Assist with medical appointments.
- Administer prescribed medications and/or first aid.
- Participate in scheduled support team meetings.
- Participate in the member’s interdisciplinary team meeting.
- Complete the annual POC assessment with each member.
- Assist the Community Living Coordinator in meeting member needs and supported community living regulations.
- Attend mandatory training.
- Complete daily documentation.
