DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP) - Day Program
Denver metro area ~ Full-Time
What You’ll Do
Direct Support Professionals play an important role within our organization and in the lives of the individuals we serve. PPCH is currently looking for dedicated and enthusiastic Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support our day program members in a variety of community settings. Thrive as a caregiver and each day you’ll:
- provide meaningful, educational, and supportive services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities receiving community-based services
- promote program members’ independence, physical and emotional well-being, and sense of community through a variety of activities such as volunteering, recreation, and community education
- support members’ behavioral needs using individualized redirection and deescalation techniques
- assist members in services with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, including personal care and hygiene or moving to and from a wheelchair
- transport members between their homes and community activities
- document members’ participation and progress towards personal goals according to their person-centered support plan
- comply with all PPCH policies and the rules and regulations of all State and Federal oversight agencies
- maintain respectful and professional relationships with our members receiving services, guardians, family members, team members, and other staff members
- attend PPCH team, staffing, and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed

What You’ll Need
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- To successfully complete the required training provided by PPCH
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite or other similar software is required
- Must be able to document all services provided in PPCH systems, as trained
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with effective listening skills, even when non-traditional communication is used
- Must be able to respectfully address issues of health and safety while supporting an individual’s choices and maintaining their dignity
- Able to work and adhere to your schedule independently with little or no direct supervision, holding yourself accountable to deadlines and expectations
- A current, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PPCH’s driving requirements
Bonus Points for Having
- Experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Experience using redirection and deescalation techniques to support individuals with intensive behavioral needs
- Experience working within the Colorado Developmental Disabilities system
- Experience safely operating a 12-passenger van
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Work will be performed in a variety of community settings, both indoors and outdoors, and involves walking and standing for extended periods of time
- Work involves physically assisting others, including pushing and/or pulling individuals who use wheelchairs or other assistive devices, transferring individuals with mobility needs, and assisting with daily living activities
- Work involves transporting program members throughout the Denver metro area each day, including driving wheelchair-accessible passenger vans
- Frequent lifting or carrying of approximately 15 pounds and occasional lifting, moving, or transferring of up to 75 pounds
