Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta (JF&CS) is seeking caring, compassionate, and committed Direct Support Professionals to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this person-centered role, you will help residents build daily living skills, participate in their communities, and live as independently as possible while receiving safe, high-quality support.
The Role at a Glance
• Reports to the Residential Manager
• Provides direct, person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• Assists with daily living, personal care, health and safety, community participation, and household routines
• Works independently and as part of a team in settings that vary based on location and individual needs
Your most important strength will be meeting each person with patience, respect, and encouragement while helping them build skills, make choices, and enjoy meaningful daily experiences.
What You'll Be Responsible For:
Daily Living & Personal Support
• Provide training and support in daily living skills, including nutrition, personal hygiene, health care, safety, communication, mobility, financial management, home management, and leisure activities, as outlined in each individual service plan (ISP)
• Provide physical assistance with personal care, which may include toileting, showering, and dressing
• Assist with meal preparation, shopping, laundry, housekeeping, simple household repairs, and financial and medication management as needed
• Support each individual's social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development Health, Safety & Community Participation
• Ensure individuals take medication according to their prescribed schedules
• Accompany and support individuals during medical appointments, therapies, personal shopping, recreation, and other community activities
• Provide transportation in a privately owned vehicle or agency vehicle as directed
• Implement behavior supports as directed in each behavior support plan (BSP)
Documentation & Collaboration
• Maintain required records and submit timesheets, expense reports, daily documentation, and other paperwork accurately and on time
• Assist with the development of ISPs, annual ISP summaries, and BSPs as requested by the supervisor
• Communicate regularly with families, key supports, job coaches, support coordinators, day programs, and other members of the individual's support team
• Participate in monthly house meetings, division staff meetings, and required training
• Keep the supervisor informed of each individual's progress, needs, issues, and concerns
