Director, Business Development & Origination

NewBe an early applicant
About Eagle Creek: Eagle Creek Renewable Energy owns and operates a portfolio of approximately 85 hydropower facilities across the United States. As an Apollo portfolio company, Eagle Creek is executing a focused value-creation agenda, and the commercial function plays a central role in strengthening contracted cash flows, capturing incremental revenue across the fleet, and shaping the portfolio through disciplined acquisitions and divestments.

Role Summary: Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, the Director of Business Development & Origination is a working leader responsible for driving commercial growth and origination across the portfolio. The role combines hands-on deal work with oversight of the Origination and Policy functions, managing its own deliverables while supporting and developing a small team. The Director leads business development activities, including facility acquisitions and divestments, originates and structures new offtake, and ensures the company’s policy and funding efforts reinforce its commercial position. The role works closely with commercial strategy and commercial operations counterparts to align on cross-functional priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Transactions
  • Lead facility acquisition and divestment processes end to end, sourcing and evaluating opportunities, coordinating diligence, supporting valuation, and managing transactions to close.
  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities across the existing fleet, including new offtake structures and incremental revenue streams.
  • Partner with the Chief Strategy Officer and Apollo stakeholders on portfolio strategy and transaction execution.
Origination & Contracting
  • Originate, structure, and negotiate offtake agreements directly, including power purchase agreements, capacity arrangements, and renewable energy credit transactions.
  • Develop and execute contracting strategies that balance pricing, tenor, and portfolio value in line with company and ownership priorities.
Team Leadership & Oversight
  • Oversee and support team members, setting direction and reviewing work product while remaining hands-on with collaborative execution.
  • Ensure policy, funding, and advocacy efforts are aligned to and supportive of the company’s commercial and value-creation objectives.
Cross-Functional Alignment
  • Coordinate closely with Commercial Strategy and Commercial Operations & Analytics counterparts to align on deal strategy, market positioning, and analytical support.
  • Contribute to a cohesive commercial function that can run multiple work streams in parallel with clear ownership.
Qualifications
  • Approximately 8 years of relevant experience in energy or power commercial, origination, or business development.
  • Demonstrated experience running or supporting acquisition and divestment processes, including diligence and transaction management.
  • Strong contracting and negotiation capability across offtake, capacity, and REC agreements.
  • Experience in RTO/ISO markets strongly preferred; experience and familiarity with hydropower or other renewables a plus.
  • Working knowledge of energy policy, grants, and funding mechanisms sufficient to guide and oversee policy work.
  • A hands-on, self-directed operator comfortable both leading deals personally and supporting a small team in a fast-paced, ownership-driven environment.
