About This Job

The Director, Strategic Business Analysis leads the team responsible for connecting CAF business needs with process, data, and technology capabilities. This role establishes the operating model and quality standards for business and systems analysis, requirements, impact analysis, user acceptance testing, analytics, and solution validation. The Director partners with senior business and Technology leaders to evaluate complex problems, anticipate upstream and downstream impacts, and identify practical solutions involving process redesign, automation, data, reporting, system enhancements, integrations, and AI-enabled capabilities. This role ensures analysis considers customer and associate experiences, operational processes, systems, data, controls, regulatory requirements, and long-term sustainability. The Director is accountable for developing Strategic Business Analysis talent and ensuring the function has the technical fluency, analytical discipline, tools, and practices required to support CAF’s priorities.

What You Will Do – Essential Responsibilities

  • Set the vision, operating model, capability strategy, and quality standards for the Strategic Business Analysis function.
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable Strategic Business Analysis associates through clear expectations, coaching, work prioritization, and career development.
  • Establish consistent practices for discovery, business and systems analysis, requirements, traceability, impact analysis, UAT, defect analysis, and solution validation.
  • Partner with senior business, Product, Program Management, Technology, Operations, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Analytics leaders to evaluate strategic business and technology opportunities.
  • Ensure complex changes are assessed for customer and associate impact, operational readiness, process design, systems, data, integrations, controls, vendors, risk, and long-term sustainability.
  • Strengthen the team’s technical fluency in CAF applications, data flows, integrations, APIs, automation, configurable platforms, reporting, and emerging technologies.
  • Guide evaluation of process, data, reporting, automation, system, and AI-enabled solution options with appropriate attention to value, feasibility, risk, privacy, security, compliance, controls, and human oversight.
  • Provide executive-level analysis, decision support, and recommendations that translate complex business and technical information into clear options and tradeoffs.
  • Establish methods for business-case development, success measures, ROI analysis, dashboards, post-launch validation, and value tracking to ensure solutions deliver intended outcomes.

Purpose of the Role

The Director, Strategic Business Analysis ensures CAF has the analytical discipline and technical fluency needed to understand complex problems, evaluate creative solutions, and validate that business and technology changes deliver intended value. The ideal candidate is a strategic people leader with deep business-analysis expertise, broad technical understanding, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders. They can develop talent, establish consistent practices, and help CAF use data, technology, automation, and AI responsibly to improve outcomes.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, information systems, technology, analytics, finance, operations, computer science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in business analysis, systems analysis, analytics, technology delivery, operations transformation, or a related discipline.
  • Experience leading and developing analysts or other technical or analytical professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing business-analysis, requirements, testing, or solution-validation practices.
  • Strong understanding of business processes, systems, data flows, integrations, APIs, controls, reporting, and technology-delivery practices.
  • Experience evaluating complex changes and communicating upstream and downstream impacts.
  • Experience guiding solution evaluation involving process redesign, automation, data, reporting, integrations, technology enhancements, or AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of requirements management, traceability, UAT, business defect analysis, and post-implementation validation.
  • Experience developing business cases, success measures, ROI analysis, dashboards, and executive reporting.
  • Strong strategic thinking, executive communication, leadership, and influence skills.
  • Experience in consumer finance, auto finance, financial services, regulated operations, technology, or analytics preferred.

The annual salary for this position is:

$140,500.00 - $224,800.00

May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
