Job Summary
Viking is seeking an experienced Director, Commercial Counsel to play a key role in supporting the company's global operations. In this position, you will work closely with senior executives, business stakeholders and legal colleagues to structure, advise and negotiate a wide range of complex commercial, technology and strategic agreements.
In addition to leading contract negotiations, you will help modernize and optimize Viking’s contracting function through the implementation of a global contract lifecycle management platform and other process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong legal judgment with business acumen, enjoys partnering closely with stakeholders and is motivated by solving complex business challenges in a collaborative environment.
Work Environment
Viking offers a hybrid work environment that balances flexibility with meaningful in-person collaboration. You will be onsite at our Woodland Hills headquarters three days per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday) with flexibility to sometimes work from our West Los Angeles satellite office. The hybrid schedule enables close partnership with executives, business stakeholders and legal colleagues while preserving flexibility to work remotely the remainder of the week.
Job Responsibilities
- Partner with leaders across technology, marketing, finance, procurement, human resources and operations to support strategic initiatives and drive business objectives.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a broad range of complex commercial, vendor, services and technology agreements.
- Provide practical, business-focused legal guidance on contract-related matters, risk management and regulatory compliance.
- Lead efforts to enhance Viking’s contracting function through process improvements, technology implementation and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance and other business stakeholders to drive process improvements and strengthen contract governance of companywide standards.
- Support the implementation of a global contract lifecycle management (CLM) platform, including governance, workflow design, reporting and user adoption efforts.
- Assist with other legal initiatives on an as needed basis.
Job Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active bar membership in good standing.
- 5+ years of experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Ability to operate independently, exercise sound business judgment and balance legal risk with practical business objectives.
- Strong experience with commercial and technology agreements.
- Knowledge of contract law, risk assessment and contract management best practices.
- Experience with contract lifecycle management (CLM) or contract management systems preferred.
- Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience developing contract templates and improving legal processes preferred.
