Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, after hours expected

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Human Resources provides strategic human resources leadership and direction for the university’s comprehensive human resources functional areas including compensation and benefits administration, position control, recruitment and employment services, training and development, employee relations, compliance, and human resources information systems. Also, the Director will serve as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator. The Director is responsible for the development and implementation of new policies, services, and programs to meet the needs of the campus community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  • Hire, train, support, and empower department employees: Assistant Director and Human Resource/Payroll Specialist.
  • Compensation Administration – Assist the Vice President for Business and Finance in developing the compensation portion of the annual budget. Maintain position control and administer salary adjustment changes within prescribed budgetary guidelines.
  • Benefit Administration - Develop and administer Human Resources and benefit policies and programs promoting industry best practices. Seek to maximize benefits at both competitive and affordable levels. Actively manage and maintain University relationships with Retirement plan fiduciary consultant and provider , health insurance broker, and other benefit provider relationships.
  • Employment – Responsible for recruiting, hiring processes, and coordinating employment on-boarding of new employees.
  • Employee Development – Establish and maintain human resource development programs including formal training and employee development activities. Actively seek and implement training opportunities to address campus staff improvement needs specifically focusing on supervisor training and support. Designs, implements, and manages a performance management and evaluation process for all staff.
  • Employee Relations – Act as employee relations officer, manage dispute resolution. Counsel employees regarding workplace issues. Counsel and assist supervisors in effectively managing employees. Coordinate the university’s staff recognition program.
  • Compliance – Maintain current knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements, advise the VP for Business and Finance, and ensure university compliance in implementation and reporting. Develop, maintain and publish clear Human Resources policies, employee and management training resources, and other communications as appropriate.
  • Technology – Ensure full and efficient use of the university’s human resources information system including sophisticated use of the university reporting tools, understand and own human resource data integrity and accuracy, and continually enhance system support campus-wide. Ensure confidentiality and safety of all personnel records in compliance with applicable state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Reporting. Manage and lead university Retirement plan reporting. Manage reporting to external agencies on behalf of the university: IPEDS, General Church of the Nazarene, Nazarene Business Officers, CUPA, NACUBO, and others as assigned.
  • Liaison with University Staff Council and coordinate the work of the University Benefit Committee. Staff and support Board of Trustees Retirement Plan committee.
  • Serve as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator. The University has a designated Title IX Coordinator (the Executive Vice President). In addition, the University has also designated Deputy Title IX Coordinators who, together with the Title IX Coordinator, will coordinate the University’s efforts to comply with Title IX. The duties of the Deputy Coordinator will include, knowing the requirements of Title IX, Understanding the Title IX grievance procedures, participating in the investigation or coordination of Title IX complaints, preventing and addressing patterns of systemic problems related to Title IX, ensuring publications contain adequate contact information and notice of discrimination, and notifying and training staff and faculty on Title IX.
  • Engenders trust and inspire confidence in university leadership and direction with current and future employees, students, and other external constituencies.
  • Represents Southern Nazarene University in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, and the community we serve. Interacts effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and other customers of our service, learns and uses operating practices of the department and SNU. Interacts with a high degree of care and focuses on offering the highest levels of customer service.
  • Handles all information with tact and discretion; recognizes and protects the confidential nature of university business to ensure both individual and institutional ethics and integrity.
  • Supports learning through performance of essential job functions and performing other duties and functions as necessary or as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
