Job Description:

About the Role:

The Director, IT Enterprise Data Governance provides enterprise leadership in advancing data governance, quality, connectivity, and business process improvement across TreeHouse Foods. Working at the intersection of business operations, enterprise technology, and analytics, this role drives the standards, processes, and capabilities required to ensure trusted, consistent, and accessible data across the organization.

This is a highly collaborative, hands-on leadership role that combines strategic direction with practical execution. The position will influence cross-functional priorities, challenge existing processes, identify systemic issues, and actively partner with business and technology teams to design and implement sustainable improvements.

The role does not own enterprise data or perform routine data maintenance. Rather, it establishes the governance framework, drives accountability, and enables business data owners and operational teams to improve how data is created, maintained, integrated, and consumed.

Success will be measured through improved data quality, reduced manual effort and rework, greater process efficiency, stronger enterprise connectivity, and increased confidence in business reporting, analytics, and AI-enabled capabilities.

You’ll add value to this role by performing various functions including, but not limited to:

Enterprise Data Governance & Leadership

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of enterprise data governance standards, policies, processes, and accountability frameworks.
  • Partner with business data owners and Shared Services to establish clear ownership, stewardship, decision rights, and consistent practices across critical data domains.
  • Facilitate cross-functional governance decisions, resolve competing priorities, and escalate systemic issues requiring business leadership intervention.

Data Quality & Assurance

  • Establish measurable data quality standards, scorecards, monitoring practices, and exception management processes.
  • Proactively investigate data quality issues, identify root causes, and work directly with accountable teams to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive sustainable controls and continuous improvement practices that prevent recurring data issues rather than relying on downstream corrections.

Business Process Improvement & Automation

  • Lead cross-functional improvements to business processes that create, maintain, and consume enterprise data.
  • Assess existing workflows, identify inefficiencies and control gaps, and develop practical solutions to simplify, standardize, and automate processes.
  • Work hands-on with business and technology teams to translate improvement opportunities into requirements, process designs, and measurable outcomes.

Enterprise Data Connectivity & Technology Enablement

  • Define enterprise data requirements, standards, and integration principles in partnership with IT architecture, enterprise applications, and analytics teams.
  • Promote consistent data definitions, interoperability, and reliable information flows across SAP, other enterprise platforms, and the modern data foundation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve how data is structured, shared, and utilized across business operations, reporting, automation, and AI-enabled solutions.

Cross-Functional Execution & Continuous Improvement

  • Build strong partnerships across Finance, Supply Chain, Commercial, Manufacturing, IT, and Shared Services to align priorities and drive enterprise improvements.
  • Translate business challenges into actionable improvement plans, working directly with stakeholders to execute solutions and remove obstacles.
  • Establish performance measures, track progress, and communicate results to business and technology leadership.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and change leader, influencing adoption of improved data practices across the organization.

Organizational Accountability & Partnerships

This position is accountable for leading enterprise data governance and enabling improvements, while maintaining clear separation from business data ownership and operational data management.

  • Business Functions: Own their respective data, business definitions, rules, policies, and quality expectations, including accountability for resolving business data issues.
  • Shared Services / Data Management: Own day-to-day data creation, maintenance, transactional controls, and operational remediation.
  • IT Enterprise Data Governance: Leads governance standards, data quality assurance, process optimization, cross-functional coordination, and technology enablement. Actively supports investigation, solution design, and improvement execution without assuming transactional data ownership.
  • Enterprise Platforms & Architecture: Own technical architecture, application solutions, integration design, and platform implementation.
  • Data & Analytics: Own data engineering, analytical platforms, reporting solutions, and related technical delivery, in alignment with enterprise governance standards.

Measures of Success

  • Improved data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with established standards.
  • Reduced manual data corrections, duplicate activities, and recurring quality issues.
  • Improved efficiency and cycle times across critical data management processes.
  • Stronger alignment of enterprise data across applications, reporting, and analytics.
  • Clear business ownership, measurable accountability, and sustained adoption of governance practices.
  • Demonstrated business value through process simplification, automation, and improved data reliability.

Important Details:

  • This position is based out of our corporate office in Oak Brook, IL.
  • The anticipated compensation for this position ranges from $160,100.00 - $240,100.00 USD annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics and business or organizational needs. For certain roles, the successful candidate may be eligible for annual discretionary merit compensation award, bonus and equity pay.

You’ll fit right in if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Data Management, Business, Analytics, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in SAP enterprise data governance, master data management, business process transformation, enterprise applications, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise initiatives and influence stakeholders across multiple business functions without relying on direct reporting authority.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data ownership and stewardship, data quality management, metadata, standards, and issue remediation.
  • Experience driving business process simplification, workflow redesign, automation, and continuous improvement with measurable business outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of ERP environments, enterprise data integration, master data dependencies, and modern analytics architectures; SAP experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing complex data and process issues, performing root-cause analysis, developing requirements, and partnering with teams to implement practical solutions.
  • Ability to balance enterprise strategy and standards with pragmatic execution, prioritizing improvements that deliver meaningful business value.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, problem-solving, and change leadership skills, with the ability to engage technical teams, operational stakeholders, and senior business leaders.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment, building alignment, challenging established practices, and driving accountability across organizational boundaries.
