Director, Legal, Corporate Secretariat & Risk

Build and lead the legal, governance, risk, and compliance function for an education-sector organization, shaping policies and frameworks from scratch.
Our client, a leading organisation in the education sector, is seeking an experienced legal leader to establish and lead its Legal, Corporate Secretariat, Risk & Compliance function. Reporting directly to the CEO, this newly created role provides the opportunity to build the function from the ground up and play a key role in shaping the organisation's governance, risk, compliance and safeguarding framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all legal, commercial and employment-related matters across the organisation
- Oversee corporate secretarial, governance and board-related activities
- Develop and enhance risk management, compliance frameworks, policies and SOPs
- Provide oversight of safeguarding, investigations, audits and regulatory compliance matters
- Partner closely with senior stakeholders to support strategic and operational decision-making
Requirements
- Common law qualified lawyer (10+ PQE) with strong experience in commercial legal matters and corporate secretarial work
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive organisational initiatives
- Strong background in governance, risk management and compliance
- Experience creating, implementing and improving policies, frameworks and operational processes
- Experience in regulated environments; exposure to ECDA regulations, safeguarding, child protection or similar compliance frameworks would be highly advantageous
