Director, MarTech Operations
At Constant Contact, we are seriously awesome people who take ownership and make an impact by operating with the mindset, integrity and courage of a small business owner. There’s something so profoundly rewarding about knowing that your work is empowering people everywhere to pursue their dreams. Here, we all play an integral part in helping business owners, entrepreneurs, non-profits and individuals to succeed by giving them all the help and tools they need to grow online. We’re energized by new challenges and new possibilities-and we’re just getting started!
About the Role
We are seeking a highly technical, hands-on Director of MarTech Operations to own the data infrastructure, tracking architecture, and conversion signal integrity that power our performance marketing efforts.
This is a specialized, cross-functional role at the intersection of marketing technology, data engineering, and performance marketing. You will ensure that data flows accurately and reliably across our digital properties, marketing technology stack, data warehouse, CRM, and advertising platforms, enabling our teams to make informed decisions, improve measurement, and optimize marketing performance.
You will take a holistic view of our MarTech ecosystem, auditing existing systems, tracing data from its point of origin through ingestion and transformation to its ultimate activation, and identifying and resolving gaps that compromise data quality or performance. You will partner closely with Growth Marketing, Web, Engineering, and Brand to strengthen our technical foundation and ensure our marketing platforms receive the accurate, actionable signals they need.
This is a player-coach role for a technical operator and systems thinker. You will define architecture and establish standards while remaining deeply involved in implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate can move seamlessly between a detailed technical investigation and a strategic conversation about how better data can drive business outcomes.
What You'll Do
MarTech Architecture, Data Lineage & Integrity
- Own End-to-End Data Flows: Develop a deep understanding of our MarTech ecosystem and how data is created, collected, ingested, transformed, and activated across our website, tracking infrastructure, data warehouse, CRM, and advertising platforms.
- Trace and Troubleshoot Data Lineage: Follow data across systems—from front-end events and conversion signals through ingestion pipelines, warehouse tables, business logic, and reverse ETL workflows—to identify where data is lost, distorted, duplicated, or misrepresented.
- Strengthen Data Quality and Observability: Establish monitoring, validation, and troubleshooting practices that improve data integrity, surface anomalies, and help identify issues before they affect marketing performance or reporting.
- Own the Tracking Architecture: Serve as the technical owner of our tagging and tracking ecosystem, including Tealium, conversion pixels, event tags, and related integrations. Ensure tracking is accurate, consistent, and maintainable across our digital properties.
- Optimize Data Infrastructure: Partner across the MarTech stack, including Snowflake, Airbyte, and reverse ETL tools such as Hightouch or Census, to maintain reliable data flows between source systems and downstream activation platforms.
Conversion Tracking & Signal Optimization
- Lead Server-Side Tracking: Implement and maintain server-to-server integrations and conversion APIs, including Meta Conversions API (CAPI), Google Enhanced Conversions, and other relevant platform integrations, to improve measurement reliability and address evolving privacy limitations.
- Improve Conversion Signal Quality: Ensure advertising platforms receive accurate, timely, and meaningful conversion data. Identify opportunities to enrich signals with first-party and downstream business data that improve campaign optimization and bidding performance.
- Manage Offline Conversion Workflows: Build and maintain processes that connect advertising interactions to downstream outcomes, including CRM stage progression and qualified or completed conversions. Ensure identifiers such as Google Click IDs (GCLIDs) and other supported matching signals are captured and passed back appropriately.
- Connect Technical Execution to Business Results: Evaluate how changes to tracking, audience signals, and conversion data affect campaign performance, revenue, retention, and measurement accuracy. Recommend and implement improvements based on measurable business impact.
Auditing, Quality Assurance & Troubleshooting
- Lead Technical Audits: Regularly audit the MarTech and advertising infrastructure to identify broken tags, data discrepancies, duplicate conversions, missing events, misconfigured integrations, and other sources of measurement error.
- Establish Quality Standards: Build repeatable QA protocols for new campaigns, landing pages, website releases, tracking changes, and integrations to validate data accuracy before issues affect reporting or media investment.
- Investigate Data Anomalies: Serve as a technical first responder when advertising platform data does not reconcile with internal analytics, CRM records, or warehouse reporting. Diagnose root causes across systems and drive issues through resolution.
- Build Proactive Monitoring: Develop a practical monitoring approach that makes data issues easier to detect, investigate, and prevent, reducing reliance on manual discovery and reactive troubleshooting.
- Document Findings and Solutions: Maintain clear technical documentation of system architecture, data flows, dependencies, tracking specifications, and troubleshooting procedures to improve transparency and long-term maintainability.
Audience Operations, Data Activation & Governance
- Own First-Party Data Activation: Oversee the flow of first-party audience and conversion data from our CRM and data warehouse into advertising platforms to support retargeting, audience segmentation, and other activation strategies.
- Strengthen Data Governance: Define and maintain standards for UTM parameters, event tracking, campaign naming conventions, and related taxonomies to support consistent data collection and reliable downstream analytics.
- Improve Cross-System Consistency: Ensure data definitions, identifiers, and business logic remain aligned across marketing platforms, internal reporting, and customer data systems.
- Evaluate Emerging Technologies: Assess new tools, integrations, and technical approaches that can improve measurement, data quality, and the effectiveness of our marketing technology ecosystem.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Technical Leadership
- Bridge Marketing and Engineering: Translate marketing objectives into clear technical requirements, implementation plans, and acceptance criteria for Web and Engineering partners.
- Partner Across the Business: Work closely with Growth Marketing, Web, Engineering, Brand, and other stakeholders to prioritize technical improvements, resolve data issues, and support evolving business needs.
- Provide Technical Direction: Establish best practices for tracking architecture, data quality, conversion measurement, and MarTech operations while remaining hands-on in the work.
- Communicate with Clarity: Explain complex technical issues, root causes, risks, and recommended solutions in terms that both technical and nontechnical stakeholders can understand.
- Stay Ahead of Industry Changes: Monitor developments in advertising platform APIs, browser and mobile privacy changes, identity resolution, and measurement technology. Recommend practical solutions that preserve data quality and marketing effectiveness.
What You'll Bring
- Senior-Level Experience: 7–10+ years of experience in MarTech, marketing operations, ad operations, marketing analytics infrastructure, or a related technical discipline, with demonstrated ownership of complex systems and implementations.
- End-to-End Data Fluency: Strong understanding of how data moves across websites, event tracking, ingestion pipelines, data warehouses, transformation layers, CRM systems, reverse ETL tools, and advertising platforms.
- Technical Troubleshooting Expertise: A proven ability to investigate complex data issues, trace lineage across multiple systems, identify root causes, and implement durable solutions rather than temporary workarounds.
- Hands-On Tracking Experience: Deep knowledge of tag management systems such as Tealium or Google Tag Manager, conversion pixels, event tracking, data layers, and server-side tracking implementations.
- Advertising Platform Expertise: Strong technical understanding of how platforms such as Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok, and LinkedIn ingest conversion and audience data, match signals, and use those signals for measurement and optimization.
- Data Infrastructure Familiarity: Experience working with data warehouses such as Snowflake, ingestion tools such as Airbyte, and reverse ETL or data activation platforms such as Hightouch or Census. Familiarity with CRM data and web analytics platforms such as Google Analytics 4 is also valuable.
- A Strong Data Quality Mindset: Exceptional attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and persistence when investigating discrepancies, identifying data gaps, and validating that systems are working as intended.
- Business-Oriented Thinking: The ability to connect technical improvements to meaningful outcomes, such as improved conversion measurement, stronger campaign optimization, more reliable reporting, and increased revenue or retention.
- Cross-Functional Communication: The ability to collaborate effectively with marketing, engineering, and data teams, translate business needs into technical requirements, and communicate complex findings clearly.
- A Hands-On Approach: Comfort operating at both the architectural and implementation levels, with the willingness to dig into configurations, logs, integrations, and individual
