As a leading practice in the Media & Entertainment industry, our group provides premier advisory services (both buy-side and sell-side), sophisticated forecasting, strategic counsel to music industry stakeholders, and litigation support services. Within the group and reporting directly to the Partner for Music Valuation Services, the Director will play a critical role from conceptualization through execution in the valuation of complex music assets, while supporting broader practice initiatives.
You will lead high-value projects across the music landscape, advising major funds, private equity firms, commercial lenders, and creators. This role is highly visible and requires a leader capable of translating complex analytical findings into actionable strategic advice for our clients and their institutional sponsors.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Transaction Advisory
- Lead Client Engagements: Direct day-to-day project execution for high-volume, full-scale asset valuations (including multi-million and billion-dollar portfolios) to support buy-side and sell-side advisory and financing transactions.
- Valuation Deliverables: Lead the preparation of financial models and presentations for valuation engagements and strategic assessments.
- Stakeholder Management: Interface directly with clients, serving as a trusted advisor to executives from major financial institutions, private equity firms, law firms, and other institutions.
Complex Valuation & Financial Modeling
- Advanced Methodologies: Oversee sophisticated financial modeling utilizing DCF methodologies, ensuring that rigorous analysis is grounded in true cash flows rather than proxies.
- Structural Expertise: Direct specialized valuations for complex entities, including going-concern versus run-off analyses, joint ventures, futures, and NAVs for active music funds.
- Granular Forecasting: Guide the development of highly specific performance income forecasts, modeling variables such as base versus bonus royalty earnings and the impact of evolving licensing frameworks.
- Mathematical Auditing & Data Integrity: Lead the rigorous review of financial models to ensure strict accuracy, actively guiding the team in debugging advanced formulas and isolating specific catalog assets to prevent calculation errors in high-volume transaction data.
Data Processing Oversight & Quality Control
- Dataset Distillation: Oversee the creation and optimization of large, complicated datasets and distill disorganized data into usable information for valuation purposes.
- Disclosure & Reporting: Finalize comprehensive evaluation reports, meticulously crafting protective disclosure language and financial summary footnotes.
- Operational Effectiveness: Work closely with the team to identify and execute operational improvements across analytical workflows and final client deliverables.
Practice Development & Thought Leadership
- Industry Analysis: Monitor and analyze macroeconomic factors influencing catalog royalty streams, including tracking market trends from a legal and regulatory perspective.
- Industry Representation & Outreach: Serve as an outward-facing ambassador for the practice by attending key music events, participating in panels, and representing the firm at industry conferences to expand brand visibility and foster strategic relationships.
