Director of Agronomy - Golf Course Maintenance
Wild Dunes Resort is seeking an accomplished Director of Agronomy to oversee the agronomic and golf course maintenance operations for two premier 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed golf courses.
Reporting to the Director of Golf, the Director of Agronomy provides strategic leadership for turfgrass management, course conditioning, irrigation and water management, maintenance standards, capital projects, and long-term agronomic planning. The position directly supervises two Golf Course Superintendents, one for each course.
The role offers the opportunity to lead the agronomic program for the recently renovated Harbour Course, which has received industry recognition and awards following its renovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and execute the agronomic vision and maintenance standards for both courses.
- Lead, mentor, and support two Golf Course Superintendents.
- Oversee turfgrass health and playing conditions, including fertility, plant protection, cultural practices, mowing, aerification, topdressing, and overseeding.
- Direct irrigation, drainage, water management, and conservation programs.
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets, equipment plans, and agronomic projects.
- Oversee agronomic aspects of course renovations, construction, and improvements.
- Coordinate course maintenance priorities with the Director of Golf, resort leadership, golf operations, tournaments, and special events.
- Recruit, develop, and retain a highly skilled agronomy team.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, pesticide, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain professional relationships with architects, consultants, vendors, and industry partners.
- Stay current with advances in turfgrass science, technology, sustainability, and resource management.
Leadership Profile
The ideal candidate is a seasoned turfgrass professional and effective leader who combines strong technical knowledge with the ability to develop people, manage resources, and maintain exceptional playing conditions.
Experience with Tom Fazio-designed courses, major renovations, and high-end resort or private-club environments is strongly preferred.
