Director of Business Development (DHS)

The Director of Business Development will be responsible for leading the identification, qualification, and early capture of new business opportunities in the Federal Civilian sector. As part of a high-performing DHS team, this individual will drive strategic growth initiatives, build trusted client relationships, and support the seamless transition of opportunities into capture and proposal phases. The ideal candidate is high-energy, collaborative, self-starting, and calm under the pressures of a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify, qualify, and shape new business opportunities in the Federal Civilian market aligned with Agile Defense’s strategic objectives.
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior leaders across Federal Civilian agencies.
- Create strategic account and customer call plans focused on growth and new market penetration.
- Conduct competitive and market analysis to guide business development strategies.
- Monitor industry trends and competitor activities through Business Intelligence tools and brief leadership on key developments.
- Lead responses to Requests for Information (RFIs) and other early-phase business development deliverables Participate in and represent Agile Defense at industry events, conferences, symposia, and trade shows.
- Generate innovative solutions to meet emerging customer requirements.
- Develop teaming strategies and identify potential partners to strengthen Agile Defense’s competitive positioning.
- Collaborate across capture, pricing, solution and delivery teams to ensure opportunities are properly shaped for success.
- Provide strategic updates on opportunity pipelines and recommend actions based on market intelligence and customer feedback.
Experience, Education and Requirement
QUALIFICATIONS
- 7 - 10 years experience in business development, capture, or opportunity shaping within the Federal Civilian and/or Intelligence community.
- Bachelors degree (preferred, or substituted with additional years of experience)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong understanding of Federal procurement processes, government contracting, and competitive landscape
- Ability to build relationships, develop strategies, and drive opportunities independently and as part of a team
Preferred Skills
- Experience pursuing and winning work within DHS, DOJ, and LE agencies.
- Familiarity with CRM tools such as Salesforce and market research platforms.
Working Conditions
Environmental Conditions
- Hybrid support with 10%-20% travel possible. General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, with some walking or standing required. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions.
Strength Demands
- Sedentary – 10 lbs. Maximum lifting, occasional lift/carry of small articles. Some occasional walking or standing may be required. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
