OVERVIEW: The Director of Business Development – Geospatial Services is responsible for driving the strategic growth and market expansion of McKim & Creed's geospatial service line across both existing and emerging markets. This role leads business development initiatives focused on aerial mapping, UAV operations, terrestrial and mobile LiDAR scanning, hydrographic surveying, reality capture, geospatial data analytics, and related geomatics services.

The Director will identify and cultivate new client relationships, expand strategic partnerships, increase market share, and develop growth strategies that align with the firm's business objectives. Working closely with operations leaders, geospatial technical experts, regional business developers, and executive leadership, this position serves as a key advocate for McKim & Creed's geospatial capabilities while helping clients solve complex infrastructure, transportation, environmental, water, energy, and land development challenges.

DURING YOUR WORK-DAY, YOU WILL:

  • Develop and execute a national business development strategy to drive growth of McKim & Creed's Geospatial Services practice.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities across public and private sector markets including transportation, aviation, water resources, utilities, environmental services, energy, federal, state, and local government clients.
  • Promote and expand the firm's aerial mapping, UAV/drone, mobile mapping, terrestrial LiDAR, bathymetric LiDAR, hydrographic surveying, reality capture, GIS, and geospatial analytics capabilities.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key clients, industry partners, technology providers, and professional organizations.
  • Collaborate with regional business development leaders and technical staff to identify cross-selling opportunities and expand geospatial services within existing accounts.
  • Lead strategic pursuit planning, opportunity positioning, capture planning, and client engagement activities.
  • Support proposal development, interview preparation, teaming strategies, and contract negotiations for major pursuits.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, market conditions, and competitive activity to identify growth opportunities and inform strategic planning.
  • Serve as a subject matter advocate and industry ambassador at conferences, trade associations, client meetings, and professional events.
  • Assist in developing annual business plans, revenue forecasts, sales targets, and key performance indicators for the geospatial service line.
  • Track and manage business development activities through the firm's CRM platform and provide regular pipeline reporting to executive leadership.
  • Work closely with operations leadership to ensure business development efforts align with resource capabilities, strategic priorities, and client delivery objectives.
  • Support recruitment, mentoring, and professional development initiatives to strengthen the firm's geospatial market presence and technical expertise.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of industry regulations, client procurement processes, and evolving geospatial technologies.
  • Travel as required to support client development, industry engagement, and strategic growth initiatives.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying and Mapping, Geomatics, Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in the geospatial, surveying, mapping, or geomatics industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business development, strategic sales, market development, account management, or related leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing growth strategies that result in measurable revenue increases and market expansion.
  • Strong understanding of aerial mapping, LiDAR, mobile mapping, hydrographic surveying, remote sensing, reality capture, GIS, and emerging geospatial technologies.
  • Existing network of industry relationships within public and private sector markets relevant to geospatial services.
  • Experience supporting complex, multi-disciplinary pursuits and coordinating with technical and operational teams.
  • Knowledge of state, local, federal, transportation, utility, and infrastructure markets.
  • Proven ability to develop trusted client relationships and influence strategic decision-making.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong strategic planning, organizational, and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM platforms, and geospatial industry software and technologies.
  • Professional certifications such as PSM, RPLS, PMP, GISP, CP, CMS-Lidar, or related credentials are preferred.
