Director of Community Life

Vincentian Home Campus | Pittsburgh, PA

Full-Time | Exempt | Benefits Eligible

Are you passionate about creating meaningful experiences, building connections, and reimagining what senior living can be? Vincentian is looking for a visionary, people-focused Director of Community Life to lead our wellness-based, intergenerational approach to community living.

At Vincentian Home Campus, we believe meaningful connections, lifelong learning, and opportunities for purpose enrich lives at every age. In this role, you’ll bring residents, families, children, students, volunteers, staff, and community partners together through creative programs and experiences that foster belonging, connection, and whole-person wellness.

You’ll lead the Community Life Department, oversee volunteer engagement and daily operations, cultivate strategic partnerships, and help shape an innovative model of senior living that challenges the status quo and creates exceptional experiences for generations to come.

What You’ll Do

Lead a Wellness-Focused, Intergenerational Community

  • Develop and implement engaging programs, activities, events, and experiences that support the eight dimensions of wellness: emotional, environmental, financial, social, physical, spiritual, occupational, and intellectual.

  • Champion intergenerational programming that brings residents, children, students, families, and community members together to build meaningful relationships and reduce social isolation.

  • Use a strengths-based approach that honors individual preferences, celebrates abilities, and creates opportunities for purpose, connection, and lifelong learning.

  • Create welcoming, accessible, and engaging spaces that encourage organic interactions, foster a sense of belonging, and support community vitality.

  • Serve as an ambassador for Vincentian Home’s innovative wellness-focused and intergenerational model, educating stakeholders and inspiring support for its continued growth.

  • Stay current on best practices, emerging trends, and new technologies in senior living, wellness, community engagement, and experience design.

Oversee Community Life and Volunteer Programs

  • Provide vision, leadership, and oversight for all Community Life Department operations, programming, and service delivery.

  • Lead the volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, engagement, and ongoing support.

  • Build meaningful relationships with volunteers, academic institutions, community organizations, and other partners to expand opportunities and enhance the campus experience.

  • Establish consistent standards and processes for program and event planning, including budgets, promotional materials, supplies, entertainment, scheduling, setup, cleanup, and coordination with internal departments.

  • Oversee daily operations and reception area staff, ensuring a welcoming environment and exceptional service for residents, families, and visitors.

  • Monitor resident and family satisfaction, respond to needs and concerns, and continuously look for ways to improve the quality of experiences and services.

Lead and Develop the Team

  • Directly supervise Community Life employees, providing leadership, coaching, training, and ongoing performance feedback.

  • Recruit, orient, develop, and support team members in partnership with People Operations.

  • Manage staff schedules to meet operational needs while maintaining department standards and budget guidelines.

  • Promote accountability, collaboration, inclusion, innovation, and a culture of service excellence.

  • Ensure employees follow Vincentian policies, procedures, ethical standards, and departmental expectations.

Manage Operations, Budgets, and Technology

  • Support departmental budgeting and manage expenses related to staffing, operations, supplies, inventory, revenue, and capital needs within established guidelines.

  • Oversee payroll entries and approvals, accounts payable, invoices, and other administrative responsibilities to support accurate and timely processing.

  • Collaborate across departments to coordinate resources, communicate updates, resolve concerns, and support organizational goals.

  • Serve as the primary resource for the campus smart technology platform, helping residents use available home, health, and community technologies.

  • Support technology evaluation, troubleshooting, and staff training while identifying digital solutions that improve resident experiences and operational efficiency.

  • Maintain effective processes, evaluate resources, and continually explore new ideas to strengthen Community Life programming and services.

  • Travel between Vincentian facilities as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For
  • A passion for whole-person wellness, intergenerational engagement, and creating meaningful experiences for people of all ages.

  • Strong knowledge of wellness-based programming, intergenerational best practices, community partnerships, and strengths-based approaches.

  • A bachelor's degree with 7+ years of progressively responsible, relevant experience, or 15+ years of direct field experience with applicable accredited certifications (such as ADC, CPD, or IPPI) and ongoing continuing education.

  • At least five years of supervisory experience.

  • Strong leadership, communication, presentation, facilitation, coaching, and relationship-building skills.

  • The ability to connect with diverse individuals, understand group dynamics, and build trust across all levels of an organization.

  • Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Comfort using technology platforms and software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with volunteer management software is preferred; content management system experience is a plus.

  • A collaborative, adaptable, and forward-thinking mindset, with a commitment to continuous improvement and service excellence.

  • Flexibility to work a schedule based on community needs, including occasional evenings and weekends.
