Director of Engineering
Summary
Oversee MEP engineering teams to design HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for construction projects while ensuring code compliance and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Metropolitan Companies is looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to join our growing team! The Director of Engineering will be responsible for designing, integrating, and maintaining MEP building systems across all construction projects. This position will also oversee team operations, ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations, and drive collaboration between architects, contractors, and project managers. - Oversee and develop the design of HVAC, electrical distribution, lighting, plumbing, and fire protection systems
- Perform field surveys to develop scope and assess existing conditions
- Build and manage a team of engineers
- Perform engineering calculations
- Analyze and apply applicable construction codes
- Work alongside structural engineers, architects, and field personnel to ensure MEP systems integrate seamlessly with the overall building design
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with local, state, and federal codes, safety regulations, and industry standards
- Participate and collaborate in project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought
- Other responsibilities as designated by management
Requirements:
- B.S. degree with an Engineering focus
- 10+ years of job-related experience
- Experience building and leading a team
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Professional Engineering License is required
Preferred:
- 15+ years of job-related experience
- Hands-on experience with engineering, design, building, and mechanical code requirements, with emphasis on multifamily facilities including market-rate housing.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards
- Energy efficient design knowledge is a plus
- Project field experience (punch list and physical needs assessments)
- Demonstrate professional technical writing skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in ArchiCAD or other BIM, (Building Information Modeling) applications
