Job Overview

DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

Embassy Suites by Hilton Boulder | Hilton Garden Inn Boulder

TWO PROPERTIES. ONE ENGINEERING VISION.

Are you a hands-on engineering leader who sees opportunities where others see challenges? Do you take pride in developing people, improving operations, and ensuring every guest walks into a property that reflects excellence?

We're seeking a Director of Engineering who will lead the engineering vision, strategy, and daily operations across our two Boulder hotel properties.

This is more than a position overseeing building maintenance. It's an opportunity to lead a team, strengthen operational systems, protect valuable assets, and create an environment where both guests and associates can thrive.

YOUR MISSION

Build and lead a proactive, accountable, and results-driven engineering operation that delivers:

  • Operational Excellence: Reliable, safe, and well-maintained facilities.

  • Preventative Maintenance: Strong programs that reduce equipment failures, minimize downtime, and extend asset life.

  • Financial Performance: Responsible budget management, effective purchasing, and thoughtful capital planning.

  • Guest Satisfaction: Fast, professional resolution of maintenance concerns and consistent property standards.

  • Team Development: An engaged, knowledgeable, and empowered engineering team.

  • Safety & Compliance: A safe environment supported by inspections, training, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance.

As a key member of the hotel leadership team, you will collaborate with department leaders and executive management to drive property performance, implement improvements, and develop long-term engineering strategies.

We're looking for a leader who doesn't wait for problems to happen but builds systems that prevent them.

If you're ready to lead with purpose, deliver measurable results, and take ownership of two exceptional properties, we want to meet you.

    • Recruit, train, coach, and develop engineering associates.

    • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability.

    • Create a culture of ownership, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

    • Provide regular feedback, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.

    • Build effective communication and collaboration across both properties.

    2. PROTECT THE ASSETS — PREVENT BEFORE WE REPAIR

    • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive preventative maintenance programs.

    • Ensure HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, mechanical systems, and building infrastructure operate safely and efficiently.

    • Conduct routine property inspections and identify opportunities for improvement.

    • Establish systems for tracking work orders, equipment performance, recurring issues, and maintenance completion.

    • Reduce equipment downtime, avoid unnecessary repairs, and extend the useful life of property assets.

    3. ELEVATE THE GUEST EXPERIENCE — MAKE EVERY DETAIL COUNT

    • Maintain high standards of guest room functionality, public areas, and overall property appearance.

    • Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance concerns.

    • Partner with Housekeeping, Front Office, and Operations to identify and resolve recurring maintenance issues.

    • Analyze guest feedback and maintenance trends to improve service delivery.

    • Ensure engineering operations contribute positively to guest satisfaction and property quality scores.

    4. MANAGE THE BUSINESS — DRIVE SMART FINANCIAL DECISIONS

    • Develop and manage departmental operating budgets and capital expenditure plans.

    • Monitor expenses, labor productivity, purchasing, and maintenance costs.

    • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety, quality, or guest satisfaction.

    • Negotiate and manage vendor agreements, service contracts, and contractor performance.

    • Oversee renovation and capital improvement projects, including scope, cost, scheduling, and quality.

    5. CHAMPION SAFETY — CREATE A CULTURE OF READINESS

    • Maintain compliance with applicable building codes, fire and life-safety requirements, and regulatory standards.

    • Lead emergency preparedness programs, inspections, drills, and safety training.

    • Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and compliance records.

    • Identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.

    • Ensure associates understand and follow safe work practices and emergency procedures.

    • Introduce practical technologies and processes that improve engineering effectiveness.

    • Establish meaningful performance measures and regularly report results to hotel leadership.

    • Collaborate with the Executive Committee to align engineering priorities with overall property goals.

SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE MEANS MORE THAN KEEPING THE LIGHTS ON.

It means developing a stronger team, creating more reliable facilities, improving guest experiences, controlling expenses, and leaving both properties better than you found them.
