Location
This position may be located in Ainsworth or Valentine, Nebraska, based on the selected candidate's preference. Regular travel between all company locations will be required as business needs arise.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Director of Finance & Accounting to lead the financial and accounting functions of our growing, family-owned agricultural company.
This is a hands-on leadership position that combines strong accounting oversight with strategic financial analysis and business partnership. The position will lead the accounting team and work closely with ownership and senior leadership to understand business performance, evaluate opportunities and risks, and provide financial insight that support better decision-making.
We are looking for someone who can do more than report what happened financially. The right individual will understand the business behind the numbers, ask thoughtful questions, identify opportunities for improvement, and confidently recommend what we should do next.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and provide direction to the accounting team.
- Oversee financial reporting, general accounting, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, month-end and year-end close, and internal controls.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, and financial analysis.
- Analyze profitability, costs, and financial performance across multiple operations and locations.
- Partner with operational leaders to understand the business drivers behind financial results.
- Develop financial models, ROI analyses, and business cases for significant investments and strategic opportunities.
- Evaluate capital investments, expansions, acquisitions, financing alternatives, and other major business decisions.
- Provide ownership and senior leadership with clear financial insight, perspective, and recommendations.
- Support banking relationships, debt management, financing, tax planning, and relationships with outside financial advisors.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting, processes, and management information.
- Help establish appropriate financial practices around liquidity, leverage, risk, and capital investment.
