Description

Salary starts at $75,000 per year based on experience.

Lead with purpose. Drive financial excellence. Make an impact beyond the numbers.

At the Crossroads YMCA, finance is about more than balancing budgets, it's about ensuring the resources are in place to strengthen our communities. We're looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Director of Finance who can lead with integrity, develop a strong team, and help turn financial information into meaningful decisions that support our mission.

Position Summary

The Director of Finance provides leadership and oversight of the Crossroads YMCA's financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, grant compliance, and audit preparation.

This position works closely with executive leadership, auditors, and program teams to maintain financial accuracy, strengthen processes, and support informed decision-making. As both a strategic partner and hands-on leader, the Director of Finance plays an important role in maintaining the organization's financial stability while ensuring resources are managed responsibly and aligned with our mission.

What You Can Expect

  • Financial Leadership & Accountability: Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger activities, accounts receivable, reconciliations, payroll-related processes, cash flow, and banking relationships.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes. Prepare financial statements, KPI reports, forecasts, and variance analyses to help leadership understand financial performance.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Maintain strong internal controls, ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, oversee grant reporting and reimbursements, and support annual audits and IRS filings.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Recruit, train, coach, and develop Senior Staff Accountants while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate and strengthen financial procedures, accounting systems, reporting practices, and internal controls to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Organizational Collaboration: Partner with executive leadership, program teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to provide financial guidance and support organizational priorities.

This Role Is A Great Fit For You If...

  • You have a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • You have a strong understanding of GAAP, accounting practices, and financial controls.
  • You bring at least two years of experience leading teams and managing people.
  • You enjoy being both a strategic thinker and a hands-on contributor.
  • You can translate complex financial information into clear, meaningful insights for others.
  • You are organized, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • You lead with integrity, accountability, and a commitment to developing others.
  • You can work independently, solve problems, and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
  • You communicate effectively and build positive relationships across departments.

Even better if you have: Experience in nonprofit financial management, grant reporting and compliance, CRM systems, or familiarity with YMCA programs and services.

This Role May Not Be A Good Fit If...

  • You prefer a finance position focused solely on strategy rather than being involved in day-to-day accounting operations.
  • You are uncomfortable managing competing deadlines, financial reporting requirements, and compliance responsibilities.
  • You prefer working independently without regularly collaborating with other departments or organizational leaders.
  • You are not interested in coaching, developing, and holding a team accountable.
  • You find it difficult to adapt processes, identify inefficiencies, or take initiative when improvements are needed.

What's Rewarding

Your work supports something bigger. Every financial decision helps ensure the YMCA can continue providing programs, services, and opportunities that strengthen our communities.

You have a voice in organizational decisions. Your financial expertise will help leadership make informed decisions that support long-term stability and growth.

You get to build and develop a team. You'll have the opportunity to mentor accounting professionals, strengthen their skills, and create a culture of accountability and collaboration.

You can make a lasting impact. By improving financial processes, reporting, and internal controls, you'll help build a stronger foundation for the organization's future.

What's Challenging

Balancing the big picture with the details. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires moving between strategic financial planning and the daily responsibilities of accounting operations.

Managing competing priorities. Financial closes, reporting deadlines, audits, grant requirements, and unexpected requests can overlap and require careful prioritization.

Maintaining accuracy in a dynamic environment. Supporting multiple departments and programs means navigating different financial needs while maintaining consistent accounting standards and internal controls.

Leading through change. Improving processes, strengthening accountability, and implementing new practices may require navigating challenges and helping others adapt.
