Summary of Position
Founded in 1901, ChildCareGroup’s (CCG) mission is to drive generational change by advancing early learning, family stability and workforce opportunity.
The Director of Marketing and Communications serves as ChildCareGroup’s senior marketing and communications leader, responsible for leading integrated strategies across brand, public relations, digital engagement, storytelling, and internal communications. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this role partners closely with senior leadership to align communications with ChildCareGroup’s mission, Strategic Plan, organizational priorities, fundraising goals, reputation, and culture.
The Director leads the Marketing and Communications team, establishes department priorities and workflows, oversees messaging and brand standards, and ensures communications are clear, consistent, audience-centered, and aligned across programs, departments, and stakeholders. This role is accountable for strengthening organizational visibility, supporting executive and internal communications, guiding high-visibility and sensitive messaging, and positioning communications as a strategic asset across the organization.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with ChildCareGroup’s Strategic Plan, mission, and long-term direction.
- Partner closely with the Chief of Staff, CEO/President, and senior leadership as a strategic communications advisor, aligning marketing and communications priorities with executive decision-making, strategic plan implementation, leadership communications, board-related messaging, brand positioning, visibility, and reputation management.
- Serve as the organization-wide lead for marketing and communications alignment, partnering with senior leaders and department heads to anticipate needs, clarify priorities, manage competing requests, and ensure consistent messaging across functions and audiences.
- Lead, supervise, and develop the Marketing and Communications team by setting clear priorities, aligning work to organizational goals, supporting professional growth, managing performance, and ensuring timely, high-quality execution across communications, marketing, digital engagement, public relations, and event-related communications.
- Provide strategic judgment and senior-level review for high-visibility, sensitive, crisis, change, media, and executive communications to protect organizational trust and ensure alignment with ChildCareGroup’s mission, values, priorities, and voice.
- Establish department-wide planning systems, editorial calendars, project intake processes, production timelines, and approval workflows to prioritize work and ensure coordinated, high-quality execution.
- Unify and tailor messaging for key audiences to clearly communicate ChildCareGroup’s two-generation approach, statewide reach, systems-level impact, and strategic priorities.
- Oversee the strategy, quality, and consistency of collateral, campaigns, presentations, leadership materials, and communications assets to ensure alignment with brand standards, audience needs, and organizational priorities.
- Lead the organization’s storytelling strategy by establishing priorities, standards, and systems for collecting, approving, and using narratives, visuals, and data that communicate ChildCareGroup’s mission, impact, and systems-level work.
- Define department-level goals, metrics, and reporting rhythms to evaluate effectiveness, guide strategy, and improve reach, engagement, visibility, and organizational impact.
- Lead internal communications strategy in partnership with the Chief of Staff, People and Culture, and senior leadership to promote transparency, reinforce culture, support employee engagement, and strengthen connection across locations and departments.
- Partner strategically with Development to align fundraising communications, donor engagement, stewardship efforts, campaign messaging, and special event communications with organizational priorities and revenue goals.
- Manage external marketing, communications, creative, media, and public relations partners and support related budget planning to ensure vendor work, paid campaigns, tools, and materials align with strategic priorities and brand standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field preferred.
- Seven to ten years of progressive experience in marketing and communications, including experience managing staff.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience in media relations, executive-level communications, and high-visibility or sensitive messaging.
- Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Experience with digital platforms, email marketing systems, social media strategy, website management, and analytics.
- Nonprofit experience and familiarity with fundraising communications preferred.
Equipment
- Computer, telephone headset, fax, scanner, and general office equipment.
Travel and Compliance
- Valid Texas driver's license required.
- Driving record must comply with CCG's automobile insurance carrier requirements.
- Must have and maintain liability insurance coverage and reliable personal transportation.
- Ability to travel locally or out of town as required.
- Must submit to and successfully pass all required CCG and Partner Program background checks throughout employment. These include FBI, Fingerprinting, Neglect and Abuse, Federal, State, Local, and Sex Offender background checks. Background check requirements may be expanded at the discretion of CCG and Partner Programs.
Physical Demands
- Work requires normal physical effort with minimal lifting requirements of items weighing 25 pounds or less.
