JOB OVERVIEW |
The Director of Marketing provides strategic and operational leadership for Unity Environmental University’s marketing efforts, translating institutional priorities into integrated campaigns that strengthen brand awareness and clearly communicate Unity’s distinctive value. Working across the University’s portfolio of online and in-person educational offerings as well as its Sustainable Ventures, the Director leads campaign planning and execution, digital marketing, content strategy, brand management, audience segmentation, and performance measurement. This position supervises marketing staff and external partners, manages budgets and project timelines, and collaborates closely with recruitment, academic, creative, and institutional leaders to ensure marketing initiatives are coordinated, audience-centered, data-informed, and aligned with the University’s mission and growth objectives.
This role is funded through Research and Development in order to create institutional bandwidth. It begins with a structured learning period of a minimum of three to six months in which the incumbent shadows and learns from the Chief Marketing Officer. Specific tasks and projects are assigned during that period. Following the learning period, the incumbent is assigned a portfolio, either at the Enterprise level or dedicated to a subsidiary or SEBU, based on institutional need. Any portfolio assigned remains within the scope of this role. The portfolio assignment and any reports are determined by the institution and are not fixed at the time of hire.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS |
- Work with the CMO to develop and execute marketing strategies that strengthen the Unity Environmental University brand and support the growth and visibility of its individual colleges.
- Establish clear positioning, value propositions, and audience strategies for each college while ensuring alignment with the University’s overarching identity.
- Build greater awareness and understanding of Unity’s distinct educational models, academic offerings, mission, and competitive advantages.
- Partner with college and University leaders to identify growth opportunities and develop marketing strategies that support their goals.
- Lead institutional and college-level campaigns across digital advertising, web, email, social media, content, print, video, and other appropriate channels.
- Direct the development of messaging and creative assets that clearly and consistently communicate the identity and value of the University and its colleges.
- Use market research, competitive analysis, audience insights, and industry trends to guide brand positioning and marketing decisions.
- Establish brand-awareness and campaign-performance measures, analyze results, and adjust strategies to improve reach, engagement, and impact.
- Partner with the CMO on website strategy, search engine optimization, AI-search optimization, and digital-content initiatives that strengthen visibility and audience engagement.
- Oversee institutional and college-level social media strategy, content planning, publishing standards, and performance measurement.
- Maintain and enforce University brand standards across institutional, University, academic, and promotional materials.
- Coordinate marketing support for new SEBUs, academic programs, partnerships, events, and other strategic University initiatives.
- Work with the CMO on the development of video, photography, web, email, print, and social media assets.
- Work with external agencies, consultants, media partners, and vendors to ensure work meets established expectations, timelines, budgets, and brand standards.
- Establish effective workflows, project-management practices, and quality-control standards for marketing initiatives and deliverables.
- Ensure marketing materials and practices comply with applicable accessibility, privacy, copyright, and institutional requirements.
- Monitor emerging marketing technologies, artificial intelligence applications, digital platforms, and changes in audience behavior.
- Lead assigned institutional initiatives and projects, including work that may extend beyond the position’s primary portfolio as organizational needs evolve.
