Director of Product Engineering - Enterprise AI Platform | Sydney ONLY (hybrid)
Salary (open): Base + Super + Bonus + Shares

The AI tools are already in place. The hard part now is getting people to use them every day, without breaking the rules of a heavily regulated business.
This role runs that. You will lead the team and the platform behind it, and stay close enough to the engineering to challenge it.

This role runs that. You will lead the team and the platform behind it, and stay close enough to the engineering to challenge it.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Lead a team of engineers, product managers and delivery leads
- Spend about a third of your time in the detail: agent design, architecture, integration choices
- Decide what to build, buy or partner on, with engineers in the room
- Turn the best team-level AI solutions into something the whole business can safely use
- Work with risk and security so the business moves fast and stays in control
- Be judged on real adoption and business impact, not how many tools you launched
- 15+ years, mostly hands-on (ML, data science or data-adjacent engineering) before moving into leadership
- Still hands-on within the last 3 to 5 years, and able to hold your own with senior engineers
- Rolled out GenAI or agent solutions at scale in a large, highly regulated, complex environment
- Built strong teams and kept the hiring bar high
- Can explain trade-offs to execs, engineers and risk teams equally well
- Uses AI tools daily and keeps up with how fast the space moves
- Careers built on strategy, governance, CoE or delivery coordination
- Side-project apps and weekend builds. Everyone has one. We want production experience.
