About the Role:
The Director of Quality, Risk & Safety provides strategic leadership and oversight of enterprise clinical quality, patient safety, and clinical risk management programs across United Vein & Vascular Centers (UVVC).
This role partners with Medical Leadership, Clinical Leadership, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and other cross-functional teams to advance clinical excellence, regulatory readiness, patient safety, and risk reduction through quality reporting, peer review support, performance improvement, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
The Director serves as a key clinical leader responsible for translating quality and patient safety data into actionable strategies, supporting Medical Leadership in peer review and professional practice evaluation processes, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic oversight of the organization’s clinical quality program, including quality assurance, clinical documentation improvement, peer review support, quality reporting, clinical practice guideline implementation, regulatory readiness, policy development, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Partner with the Quality Manager and Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist to advance clinical documentation improvement initiatives, identify trends and opportunities, and support education, workflow optimization, and compliance with regulatory, payer, and medical necessity requirements.
- Review, interpret, and operationalize clinical practice guidelines, payer medical policies, and medical necessity requirements to support evidence-based care, regulatory compliance, and consistent clinical practice patterns.
- Support Medical Leadership in the design, administration, and ongoing evaluation of peer review, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE), and provider quality monitoring processes through data analysis, case preparation, performance trending, and committee support.
- Collect, analyze, trend, and report clinical quality and regulatory data to identify performance gaps, emerging risks, and opportunities for improvement; prepare dashboards, benchmarking, and actionable recommendations for leadership and committees.
- Provide oversight of Quality Payment Programs, including MIPS and other value-based care initiatives, and advise leadership regarding performance trends, reimbursement implications, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Safety Program
- Provide strategic oversight of organizational patient safety programs to strengthen patient safety, harm prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective systems exist for reporting, investigating, trending, and mitigating patient and employee safety events, complaints, grievances, and adverse incidents.
- Oversee event reporting, incident investigations, root cause analyses (RCA), emergency preparedness activities, safety audits, environmental rounding, and regulatory readiness initiatives.
- Support development and implementation of patient safety policies, procedures, education, and risk reduction initiatives.
- Monitor patient safety data, trends, and corrective action effectiveness to reduce harm and strengthen organizational safety performance.
- Prepare and present patient safety findings, trends, and recommendations to leadership and organizational committees.
Risk Program
- Provide strategic oversight of the organization’s clinical risk management program, including incident investigation, claims management support, risk mitigation planning, and organizational risk reduction activities.
- Identify emerging clinical and operational risks through data analysis, event reporting, complaints, and organizational assessments and partner with leadership to implement mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with Legal and Compliance teams regarding potentially compensable events, litigation support, discovery activities, and organizational risk exposure.
- Oversee development, implementation, and maintenance of risk-related policies, procedures, and education to support regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness.
- Monitor changes in healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices to strengthen organizational preparedness and reduce risk exposure.
Leadership & Team Development
- Directly supervise the Quality Manager and Clinical Risk & Safety Manager.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, and professional development to team members.
- Establish departmental priorities, goals, accountability measures, and performance expectations aligned with organizational objectives.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex quality, patient safety, clinical risk, regulatory, and performance concerns.
- Foster collaboration among Medical Leadership, Clinical Leadership, Operations, Compliance, and other cross-functional teams.

Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current state licensure required.
- Bachelor’s degree required in Nursing or a related healthcare field (e.g., Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Health Sciences, Risk Management, Quality, or Business Administration with healthcare experience).
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Risk Management, or related healthcare field preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive healthcare leadership experience in quality, risk, patient safety, clinical operations, regulatory compliance, or performance improvement.
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing quality, safety, or risk management programs and/or personnel.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare quality improvement, patient safety principles, peer review, OPPE/FPPE, accreditation standards, healthcare regulations, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Strong understanding of healthcare quality reporting, quality payment programs (e.g., MIPS), HEDIS, ACO/value-based care initiatives, healthcare performance metrics, and performance measurement frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, trending, and presenting healthcare quality, patient safety, and clinical risk data to support performance improvement and decision-making.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint required; experience with dashboards, KPI reporting, benchmarking, and healthcare reporting or visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, EMR reporting platforms) preferred.
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM), or similar healthcare quality, safety, or risk certification preferred.
- Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Must be willing and able to travel nationally up to 20%.
