Rewired Consulting is recruiting a Director of Software Engineering for a client in Rosedale, Auckland. The role leads and scales software and mobile engineering, owning delivery, reliability, quality and technical strategy across multiple teams, while championing AI-assisted development tools and automation.
The Role:
We’re looking for an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead and scale our clients Software and Mobile Engineering functions. This is a high-impact leadership role with end-to-end ownership of engineering delivery, platform reliability, software quality, customer experience, and technical strategy.
Working closely with Product, the Project Management Office (PMO), Data, and other cross-functional teams, you’ll translate business priorities into measurable engineering outcomes while building a high-performing organisation focused on delivery, quality, and continuous innovation.

Key responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end engineering delivery, system reliability, performance, and quality across Software and Mobile teams.
- Translate business and product strategy into clear engineering roadmaps, execution plans, and measurable outcomes.
- Establish engineering standards, best practices, and operating rhythms that drive accountability and continuous improvement.
- Lead and resolve complex technical and delivery challenges while balancing immediate priorities with long-term technical strategy.
- Identify and implement AI-driven solutions to improve engineering productivity, automated testing, support operations, and customer-facing product capabilities.
- Champion the adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows across engineering teams.
About you:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles.
- Operating at a Director level of ownership, not just coordination
- Proven experience leading multi-team engineering functions or platform-level engineering organisations.
- A strong technical background in mobile applications, backend services, full-stack systems, or a combination of these.
- Demonstrated ownership of software delivery, production operations, system reliability, and quality outcomes.
- Experience delivering SaaS platforms and large-scale software solutions.
