Director, Sales & Marketing
About Protocol Behavioral Health
Our mission is to make cancer care better for patients, providers, and payers — improving outcomes through specialized behavioral health and supportive care, embedded within oncology care teams.
A cancer diagnosis changes everything, not just a patient's physical health, and we exist to make sure their emotional needs are met alongside their treatment, not as an afterthought. We do this by partnering directly with oncology clinics and cancer centers and using the collaborative care model to bring mental health support into the room where cancer care already happens. That means patients get support earlier and more consistently and providers get a partner equipped to handle the mental health care their patients need.
Our team is built by experienced healthcare operators and executives who have built and scaled partnerships across behavioral health, oncology, and value-based care. We're a fast-growing, early-stage company, and every new partnership moves us closer to making specialized behavioral health a standard part of cancer care.
About the Role
The Director, Sales & Marketing plays a critical role in supporting Protocol's growth by driving the execution, infrastructure, and marketing behind our go-to-market efforts. This role operates at the center of Protocol's commercial function, working closely with leadership to manage pipeline activity, take the lead on marketing, and advance high-priority company objectives.
Reporting to our Chief Commercial Officer, this is a hands-on, individual-contributor role for someone who can move fluidly between shaping priorities with leadership and executing the work directly, using technology and AI tools to extend their own reach and get more done.
This role is well suited for a highly analytical, organized operator who thrives in ambiguity and wants to help shape what this function becomes
In this role you will:
Own and build Protocol's growth infrastructure, including CRM, pipeline management, forecasting, and reporting, ensuring clear visibility into pipeline performance, conversion, and deal velocity, and manage the full sales cycle from lead through signed contract
Take the lead on marketing for Protocol, building out top-of-funnel activity, a reusable content library, and the outbound/inbound engine (HubSpot automation, content distribution, conference strategy) needed to keep the funnel full and drive continued engagement
Build financial and operational models and develop business cases to evaluate new partnerships, expansion opportunities, and growth initiatives
Partner closely with the Chief Commercial Officer & senior leadership team to translate growth priorities into structured execution plans, driving progress across key initiatives
Support the exec team in owning cross-functional initiatives, preparing board and leadership materials, and helping run operating cadences, planning processes, and offsites
Own and evolve Protocol's external narrative, including decks, one-pagers, case studies, and partner-facing materials, ensuring consistency, quality, and a compelling value proposition
Lead branding and marketing initiatives, including a messaging guide, campaign execution, and potential rebrand efforts to strengthen go-to-market effectiveness
Identify bottlenecks across growth, marketing, and operations, and implement process improvements and scalable systems that increase efficiency, consistency, and speed
Who we're looking for:
4 to 8+ years of experience in business operations, growth marketing, sales operations, business development, consulting, or healthcare services operations, with direct, hands-on experience owning marketing execution
Equally comfortable in a strategy conversation with executives and doing the hands-on work of building a campaign or writing outbound copy; strong analytical and financial modeling skills
Experience working with CRM and marketing automation systems such as HubSpot or Salesforce, with a strong understanding of pipeline management, segmentation, and data integrity; CRM implementation experience a plus
Comfortable using technology and AI tools to extend their own reach and get more done
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive complex processes forward
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing presentations, business cases, or executive-facing materials
High level of ownership, operational rigor, and comfort working in ambiguity while building scalable processes and infrastructure from scratch
Strong interpersonal skills and comfort moving between executive-level conversations and hands-on engagement with external partners
Preferred qualifications:
Experience in healthcare services, specialty physician services, oncology, urology, radiation, or practice operations, or a high-growth healthcare services startup environment
Experience working cross-functionally with leadership teams on strategic initiatives
HubSpot implementation or administration experience specifically
