Directory Services Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Directory Services Engineer based in India.
This role is a key opportunity to shape and support a secure, resilient, cloud-centric identity and directory environment within a global technology organization.
You will work across Active Directory, Azure AD, virtual directory technologies, and cloud infrastructure to deliver highly available and secure services.
The position combines hands-on engineering, advanced troubleshooting, security, automation, and operational leadership.
You will collaborate closely with architecture, information security, development, operations, and business teams to translate complex requirements into effective solutions.
A strong focus on privileged identity protection, least-privilege access, compliance, and resilience will make your work critical to the organization’s security posture.
You will also contribute to modernization through scripting, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and cloud technologies.

Accountabilities:
- Design, implement, integrate, and support secure and highly available Directory Services platforms across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Partner with architecture and engineering teams to translate technical requirements into scalable directory and identity solutions.
- Administer and maintain complex directory environments, including Active Directory, Azure AD, virtual directory platforms, and cloud-managed directory services.
- Ensure directory platforms meet security, compliance, availability, resilience, and operational standards.
- Protect privileged identities by applying role-based access control, access control lists, least-privilege principles, and Just-In-Time access practices.
- Lead Level 3 incident response during assigned shifts and on-call rotations, applying deep troubleshooting and engineering expertise to resolve critical issues.
- Own root-cause analysis and problem-management activities, identifying recurring issues and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to operational support teams and help establish stronger engineering and operational practices.
- Direct the installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle management of directory technologies.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture references, operational procedures, and runbooks.
- Support security and compliance audits and help ensure directory environments meet applicable policies and controls.
- Use PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Python, Bash, JavaScript, or similar technologies to automate operational and engineering tasks.
- Contribute to CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code practices using technologies such as Terraform.
- Manage and apply Group Policy to enforce security controls, configuration standards, and software deployment requirements.
- Support disaster recovery, performance, resilience, and availability strategies for critical Tier 0 and Tier 1 systems.
- Communicate technical issues, risks, and solutions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders while maintaining strong customer and partner relationships.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or at least 5 years of relevant IT experience in a global infrastructure environment.
- Extensive experience managing complex and distributed directory environments, including technologies such as Active Directory, eDirectory, Radiant Logic, Azure AD, or AWS Managed AD.
- Strong understanding of identity and access management concepts, including Identity Governance, Privileged Access Management, Single Sign-On, Federation, and Multi-Factor Authentication.
- Practical knowledge of information security principles and a demonstrated security-first approach to infrastructure engineering and troubleshooting.
- Significant experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, including an understanding of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS service models.
- Strong scripting and automation capabilities using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Python, Bash, JavaScript, or comparable technologies.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code practices, ideally including Terraform.
- Hands-on knowledge of Group Policy Management and its use for security enforcement, configuration management, and software deployment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft ADCS, PKI, KMS, and Azure AD Connect.
- Strong Windows and Linux engineering fundamentals, including familiarity with DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, UDP, failover clustering, SIEM, IIS/Tomcat, virtualization, and load balancing.
- Understanding of disaster recovery, system resilience, performance management, and high-availability requirements for business-critical infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and the ability to identify, implement, and promote industry best practices.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate complex issues while balancing security, engineering, and business requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues in clear business language.
- Strong leadership, collaboration, organizational, interpersonal, and stakeholder-management abilities in a global team environment.
