Dispatcher / Load Planner

Coordinates truck routes, backhauls, and load planning to maximize efficiency and comply with DOT regulations while tracking driver progress in real time.
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Dispatcher / Load Planner to join our growing operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for optimizing truck utilization, planning efficient routes, securing backhaul opportunities, and ensuring drivers operate safely and efficiently while remaining compliant with DOT and Hours of Service regulations. Responsibilities
Monitor the real-time location and route progress of drivers.
Plan and secure backhaul loads, with a focus on freight returning toward Charlotte and the Carolinas.
Optimize routes by utilizing the company's 150,000 sq. ft. cross-dock facility when beneficial.
Coordinate load planning to maximize equipment utilization and minimize empty miles.
Plan drivers' schedules in advance based on delivery times and locations.
Enter "0-mile" return orders when no suitable backhaul loads are available to ensure accurate performance tracking.
Work with slip-seat truck operations and coordinate equipment availability.
Ensure all dispatching activities comply with Hours of Service (HOS) and DOT regulations.
Maintain accurate records and communicate proactively with drivers and internal teams.
Working conditions:
Working schedule: Mon - Fri 10am - 6pm EST

Requirements
Previous experience as a Dispatcher, Load Planner, Fleet Coordinator, or in a similar transportation/logistics role.
Strong understanding of truckload operations and load planning.
Knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) and DOT regulations.
Experience planning backhaul loads and reducing empty miles.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick operational decisions.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Good English communication skills (written and spoken).
Experience with TMS and load boards is a plus.
