Dispatcher - Night Shift
Responsibilities
Reports to and takes general direction from Night Dispatch Supervisor.
Personnel Responsibilities
- Monitors activities and provides direction to drivers to ensure safe and timely delivery of freight. Proceeds on own initiative with little guidance.
- Communicates with drivers on an ongoing basis, primarily via telephone and mobile communication messaging.
- Exercises independent judgment to determine situations that need to be addressed immediately with employees and/or independent contractors. Forwards information about less urgent situations to the driver's assigned Fleet Manager to be addressed.
- Provides ongoing feedback to drivers regarding their personal performance, both positive and constructive.
- Forwards information to assigned Fleet Manager in situations where a performance related was addressed.
- Evaluates situations reported that could be potentially detrimental to the safety and/or well-being of the driver himself or others.
- Uses independent judgment to take action and/or escalate situations as necessary.
- Ensures drivers conduct themselves appropriately to maintain a work environment that is free of unlawful harassment, including, but not limited to, sexual harassment. Takes action in all potentially harassing situations.
- Integrates the company’s noble purpose and core values into every aspect of the position and communicates with team on a regular basis on the company’s core values, mission, vision and noble purpose.
- Reinforces the behaviors of employees demonstrating core values and giving recognition to employees who endorse the core values of the company.
- Incorporates core values and noble purpose as part of performance management process and coaches and supports employees on how to demonstrate core values.
Operational Responsibilities
- Dispatches trucks.
- Reads and responds to and/or takes appropriate action regarding all mobile communication messages.
- Reads late pings and takes appropriate action to ensure on time delivery.
- Collects POD faxes when necessary.
- Ensure drivers are following the fuel solution.
- Keeps PTA’s current.
- Monitors the Tractor Services screen and corrects temperature issues.
- Verifies unloading charges.
- Trains Drivers in their duties as the situation demands.
- Provide guidance to Drivers on editing their DOT logs.
- Assist Drivers in trip planning.
Relay Responsibilities
- Ensures that relays are feasible and that the load will deliver on time.
- Sets up and watches relays to ensure the delivery of on time freight.
iSeries Alert Responsibilities
- Receives iSeries Alert Messages indicating there are emergency issues with the temperature of the trailer and/or cargo
- Follows company direction and properly investigates and addresses all alerts thoroughly and with urgency – Even if it is a reoccurring alert
- iSeries Alert messages are a critical function of the job and if not properly addressed may result in immediate termination.
Risk Management Responsibilities
- Writes up accident reports.
- Writes up OS&D reports.
General Responsibilities
- Enforces policies outlined in the Driver’s Information Handbook and Owner Operator Information Handbook.
- Leaves shift communication sheet when necessary.
- Investigates and addresses all Personal Conveyances.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Elevate Auto-Dialer Responsibilities
- Follows Elevate policy and remains logged in to auto-dialer system to receive inbound calls and be available for auto-queued outbound calls.
- Updates agent status in dialer as directed by management.
- Remains logged in to dialer and keeps unavailable time (including wrap-up time) to a minimum.
- Dispositions calls appropriately to summarize the outcome of the call.
