What you’ll be doing...
You'll be at the forefront of Verizon's journey toward Autonomous Network Level 4 — transforming our Network Monitoring Center (NMC), Network Assurance, and System Performance operations from reactive to fully autonomous. You'll define and drive the AI engineering, platform, and architecture strategy & implementation that powers real-time network intelligence across Verizon's world-class infrastructure. From proactive fault detection and alarm correlation to AI-driven root cause analysis and closed-loop remediation, your work will directly reduce network downtime, accelerate recovery, and enhance the experience of millions of customers. You'll lead a team of AI engineers and data engineers in architecting, building, and scaling the agentic AI systems, predictive platforms, and real-time decision engines that put network autonomy within reach — with human engineers in the loop. Your mission is to operationalize and deploy robust AI solutions that turn every network signal into an intelligent action, making Verizon's network smarter, faster, and more self-healing every day.
AI Team Leadership: Leading a high-performing AI Engineering team focused on Network AI use cases — coaching, mentoring, assessing performance, and setting production standards while embedding generative AI capabilities (such as Claude Code) into daily software and prompt engineering workflows to accelerate delivery and modernize toolsets.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Partnering with Network Monitoring Center, Network Assurance, and System Performance stakeholders to translate network pain points into autonomous, agent-driven engineering solutions — spanning network health monitoring, proactive performance degradation detection, intelligent fault triaging, and real-time recovery recommendations for network engineers.
Signal Optimization: Driving network health optimization through intelligent fault signal quality improvements — building AI systems that suppress alarm noise, eliminate non-actionable tickets, and deliver automated diagnostic and resolution workflows that reduce mean-time-to-repair and sharpen the focus of network engineering teams
Self-Optimizing Networks: Engineering AI systems for Self Optimizing Networks including Autonomous Network Configuration management and execution of self-healing actions across multi-vendor network environments at scale.
Autonomous AI Architecture: Defining and executing the AI software architecture and system deployment strategy that drives the full autonomous network lifecycle: anomaly detection pipelines, multi-signal fault correlation, causal root cause analysis (RCA), failure prediction, real-time Next Best Action (NBA) engines, and closed-loop remediation automation — all with human engineers on the loop.
What we’re looking for...
You are a recognized technical leader at the intersection of AI software engineering, production system design, and telecommunications network operations. You combine deep hands-on AI systems engineering expertise with a clear-eyed understanding of network performance, fault management, and assurance systems. You possess the strategic engineering vision to architect Verizon's path to Autonomous Network Level 4 and the execution depth to build, scale, and deploy the production AI systems that will get us there. You can design scalable software architectures to distill complex, high-volume network telemetry into actionable intelligence and communicate technical designs convincingly to both engineering teams and senior leadership. Above all, you are an inspiring leader who cultivates high-performing software and AI teams through care, candor, and a relentless commitment to engineering excellence.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
Experience in AI/ML engineering, software architecture, and production deployment of large-scale operational systems, including anomaly detection, time-series forecasting, or fault classification on high-volume telemetry or event data.
Experience building, scaling, and operationalizing real-time AI systems such as anomaly detection & clustering pipelines (e.g., Isolation Forest, Autoencoder, CUSUM, DBSCAN), root cause analysis services, and Next Best Action (NBA) recommendation engines using multi-dimensional feature engineering.
Experience architecting and deploying end-to-end software pipelines that translate complex operational data — such as network alarms, performance counters, and system event logs — into AI models and actionable automated workflows.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
Strong production coding experience with Python, FastAPI, SQL, Kafka, Spark, microservices, and RESTful APIs for building high-throughput, real-time data pipelines and scalable AI inference services.
Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, BigQuery) and streaming data architectures for processing high-throughput network telemetry at enterprise scale.
Domain expertise in telecommunications network operations — including familiarity with RAN, Core, or Transport network layers, FCAPS frameworks, network KPIs, and alarm management systems.
Experience designing, building, and deploying Agentic AI systems or multi-agent orchestration frameworks for autonomous decision-making and closed-loop automation in production environments.
Experience utilizing GenAI/LLM tools (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate software delivery, automate engineering workflows, and build intelligent network assistant capabilities.
Demonstrated communication, cross-functional leadership, and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to align technical strategy with business outcomes and resolve executive escalations.
If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
