District Manager - Kentucky

Job description:

Military Deli & Bakery Services is the #1 provider of deli/bakeries to U.S. Military Commissaries with103 locations nationwide. This position is an exciting opportunity for a District Manager to oversee 5-7 locations. The chosen individual will work out of their home office, and travel to bases in the area primarily by car, with occasional trips by plane. This position includes a company vehicle and necessary office equipment and will require approximately 50% overnight travel.

Territory assignments are subject to change based on business needs.

The ideal candidate will live in the Louisville, KY or Cincinnati, OH area.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The District Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of multiple Deli/Bakeries. Serves as a leader in the development and motivation of Deli/Bakery Management and Associates, while creating an environment that encourages productivity, food safety, customer service and sales.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial/Operations:

· Is knowledgeable of and oversees management of all aspects of deli, bakery, hot foods: Sales and profit opportunities, staffing, training, customer service, product presentation, cleanliness, and sanitation.

· Supports new growth programs in all departments to raise customer count in the stores.

· Ensure consistent application of operating procedures.

· Accountable to maximize daily sales and effectively manage costs, labor, inventory, margin and salvage.

· Continuously promotes safety, ensures that safety procedures are followed, and that monthly Safety Meetings occur at each location. Personally, conducts a Safety Meeting at every location each quarter.

· Continuously monitors department conditions and ensures that Vet Inspections meet or exceed standards and expectations.

· Approves schedules weekly to ensure that they are written to meet business needs and SPLH projections, and that they are being followed.

· Conducts inventory process alongside Deli/Bakery Manager at a select base each month.

· Consistently visits district stores to ensure standards are being met. Identifies and corrects situations where more training or support is needed, on a proactive basis.

· Assures morale is maintained at a high level, to promote retention and reduce turnover.

· Serve as Deli/Bakery Manager on an as-needed basis.

Customer Service:

· Ultimately responsible for all aspects of customer service, ensuring the highest level of quality and standards.

· Empowers Deli/Bakery Managers and Associates to deliver exceptional service.

· Ensures DeCA Customer Surveys are within acceptable standards.

Human Resources:

· Responsible for the development of Deli/Bakery managers, Assistants, and Shift Leaders.

· Responsible for providing direct, honest, and productive feedback to Management and Associates regarding individual performance. Works with Human Resources to address performance issues and create a plan of action.

· Monitors staffing levels and works with HR to recruit positions on a proactive basis.

· Ensures compliance with MDBS policies and procedures.

· Routinely reviews payroll timekeeping practices at each location to ensure compliance with MDBS and wage and hour policies. Reviews hours to ensure compliance with Part Time and Full-Time status requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Two years of general management experience, with a strong operational background in Deli and/or Bakery. Experience in a retail supermarket chain and/or multi-unit operation is preferred.

· Proven leadership and team building skills; ability to motivate and manage all levels of staff and management.

· Strong written and verbal skills.

· Organizational skills.

· Financial analysis and assessment skills.

· Good computer skills to efficiently use MDBS databases and software programs.

· Good driving record required for use of company car. Ability to gain access to military installations, which may entail routine criminal background checks by the government.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT

· Position is based from a home office.

· Must be available to work during normal business hours, weekends, and evenings.

· Ability to travel on a regular basis (50-80%) by car and by plane.

· Ability to read and analyze hard written copy and information on a computer screen.

· Ability to successfully respond to multiple work pressures.

· Ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner in writing (including email) to individuals and groups.

· Ability to successfully communicate verbally, in person and using a phone.

· Ability to listen for understanding and assist in problem solving.

· Carrying and lifting 30-50 lbs.

· Operating equipment standing for entire shift.

· Frequent repetitive motion using deli meat and cheese slicers.
