Overview

East Penn is currently seeking a Divisional Safety Manager who will be responsible for leading safety programs and initiatives for the Metals Division. The role will focus on preventing injuries, controlling exposure to lead and other chemicals, and reinforcing the Safety Management System (SMS). The Manager will maintain a visible presence in the facilities, mentor and coach floor leadership, and serve as a subject matter expert for safe work practices.

This position reports directly to the Director of Health & Safety and is accountable for implementing safety strategies, programs, and commitment initiatives. The incumbent maintains a strong dotted-line relationship with Metals Division Operations leadership to ensure safety objectives are integrated into daily operations, production planning, and continuous improvement activities. The role works collaboratively with Operations management to prioritize risk reduction, support operational goals, and drive a strong safety culture across the division.

Responsibilities

  • Manage EHS programs, procedures, and reporting for the Metals Division, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations and EPM standards
  • Develop and implement an incident prevention program, with emphasis on energy-based hazard recognition and preventing serious injuries (SIF)
  • Identify hazards, risks, safeguards and controls
  • Coach employees and supervisors to reduce exposure to high-energy hazards
  • Support Industrial Hygiene efforts to reduce employee exposure to lead
  • Create and update processes and procedures in the Safety Management System (SMS), and support incorporation of safe work practices in work instructions
  • Support audits, asset protection, hazard communication, ergonomic evaluations, and other safety functions as needed
  • Champion the use of human and organizational performance (HOP) principles to reduce errors and prevent injuries
  • Assist with the development and delivery of training that targets high risk tasks
  • Investigate significant injuries and near misses, with emphasis on learning and continuous improvement
  • Implement or coordinate corrective actions
  • Act as the safety liaison to contractors and consultants
  • Monitor leading indicators and improve safety-related processes
  • Report to management on progress, trends, issues and emerging safety risks
  • Promote a positive safety culture by modeling safety leadership and presence

Qualifications

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Environmental, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent level of education, training and experience may be considered
  • For a supervisor-level role, a minimum of 5 years of experience supporting the manufacturing, construction, mining, and/or utility industry
  • For a manager-level role, a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience, AND a minimum of 7 years of experience supporting the manufacturing, construction, mining, or utility industry
  • Relevant military training and experience are considered applicable
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Training preferred
  • Professional certification preferred (e.g. ASP, CSP, PE, PMP)

Competencies

  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety regulations and policies
  • Familiar with concepts of incident prevention and energy-based safety
  • Working knowledge of lockout/tagout to isolate hazardous energy sources
  • Experience with ISO 45001 standard for occupational health and safety management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to coach others and influence without direct authority
  • Experience authoring training content, safety procedures and/or work instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively in dynamic work environments
  • Project management and organization skills
  • Core working hours Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, must be available to work at varied times as required to accomplish the goals and deliverables of their exempt position
  • Occasional travel to various locations (up to 10%)
