Dock Technician Job Summary
In a safe, efficient, and professional manner, the Dock Technician performs preventive maintenance (PMs), troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial and industrial facility equipment, with a primary focus on loading docks, dock equipment, commercial doors, and related building systems. The technician demonstrates excellent communication skills, exceptional follow-through, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and life-critical safety practices.
- Conduct routine "shift rounds" to inspect facility systems and equipment, identify deficiencies, and document equipment performance.
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on commercial and industrial facility equipment.
- Inspect and evaluate equipment by measuring operating characteristics such as:
- Speed
- Pressure
- Vacuum
- Vibration
- Equipment wear
- Replace expendable components including:
- Belts
- Hoses
- Filters
- Fluids
- Lubricants
- Service and maintain:
- Dock levelers
- Dock seals
- Dock bumpers
- Dock locks
- Automatic doors
- Hollow metal doors
- Overhead doors
- Commercial locks and door hardware
- Perform routine preventive maintenance including:
- Filter changes
- Condenser cleaning
- Oil changes
- Equipment lubrication and greasing
- Complete basic facility repairs including:
- Painting
- Patching
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Basic electrical repairs
- Lighting repairs
- Complete required training related to:
- Confined space procedures
- Hazardous energy control (LOTO)
- Required safety documentation
- Document completed work, inspections, and findings within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Analyze maintenance findings and recommend updates to preventive maintenance schedules.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and customer personnel regarding work requests, project status, and estimated completion times.
- Coordinate with and provide guidance to subcontractors performing facility services when required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.
Qualifications Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Trade school education or related technical training preferred.
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of experience servicing and maintaining:
- Commercial dock levelers
- Dock locks
- Dock equipment
- Automatic doors
- Commercial overhead doors
- Commercial door hardware
- Experience maintaining dock maintenance programs and maintenance records.
- Experience troubleshooting:
- Electronic controls
- Power supplies
- Pneumatic systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Basic rigging experience required.
