Dosimetrist II, Radiation Oncology, Full-Time, Day Shift

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Dosimetrist II in Radiation Oncology. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Under limited supervision, calculates dose distributions for 3-D external beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy including ultrasound guided prostate implants. Participates in complex dose calculations as required for intensity modulated beam delivery and stereotactic radiotherapy. Cooperates in physics projects, quality control and performance improvement programs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Plans a treatment technique for external radiation or brachytherapy by means of computer computations, following the prescription specified by the Radiation Therapist, to deliver specified dose to the defined target volume

  • Communicates results to physicist and Radiation Therapist, makes adjustments as needed. Consults in the design and fabrication of field shaping and or beam modifying devices

  • Assist the Physicist in intracavitary and interstitial radioactive source procedures and the computer calculation of the resulting dose distributions

  • Checks patient's radiation therapy charts weekly and verifies accuracy of all entries.

  • Enters treatment parameters in computerized data base for transfer to the treatment machines.

  • Assists Physicist with patient Thermoluminescent Dosimetry.

  • Provides guidance and training to Dosimetrist I, Dosimetrist Trainee and Residents as needed.

  • Carries duties independently, with consultations with physicist as needed

  • Keeps current on new treatment planning techniques, devices, and treatment procedures

  • Performs other duties as requested by senior management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science degree or higher.

  • Must be a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board.

  • Five years experience of working as a CMD.

  • Computer literacy, high level of organization, working knowledge of radiation safety, superior communication skills.

  • Thorough understanding of all technical aspects of radiation therapy treatments and ability to communicate with radiation oncologist and radiation therapy technologists.

  • Able to perform under clinical pressure.
