Draftsman – Structural Steel & Aluminium Works

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Draftsman to prepare accurate technical, shop, fabrication, and installation drawings for structural steel, non-structural metal, aluminium, and architectural metalwork projects.

The role will involve translating engineering and architectural requirements into detailed production-ready drawings, developing 3D models where required, preparing material take-offs, and coordinating closely with engineering, production, procurement, project, and site teams. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in structural steel and metal fabrication, excellent AutoCAD skills, and hands-on knowledge of Tekla or similar detailing software.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Drafting & Detailing

• Prepare detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and installation drawings for structural and non-structural metal works.
• Develop accurate 2D drawings and 3D models based on approved architectural, structural, and engineering information.
• Prepare detailing for structural steel frameworks, platforms, staircases, handrails, ladders, supports, cladding, and miscellaneous metal works.
• Develop aluminium and architectural metalwork details based on project specifications and approved designs.
• Interpret architectural, structural, IFC, and engineering drawings and convert them into fabrication-ready drawings.
• Ensure all dimensions, levels, connections, materials, profiles, and specifications are accurately represented.

AutoCAD & Tekla Modelling

• Create and modify detailed drawings using AutoCAD.
• Develop 3D models and fabrication drawings using Tekla Structures or equivalent detailing software.
• Generate accurate plans, elevations, sections, assemblies, and connection details.
• Prepare shop and fabrication drawings from design calculations, engineering drawings, and project specifications.
• Update models and drawings based on design changes, site conditions, consultant comments, and project requirements.

Fabrication & Production Coordination

• Coordinate with fabrication and workshop teams to ensure drawings are practical and suitable for manufacturing.
• Prepare cutting lists, material schedules, and fabrication documentation where required.
• Review drawings for constructability and identify potential fabrication or installation issues before production.
• Coordinate with production teams regarding dimensions, materials, welding details, connections, and assembly requirements.
• Resolve technical drawing discrepancies in coordination with engineers, project managers, and workshop personnel.

Project & Site Coordination

• Coordinate with project engineers, site engineers, supervisors, consultants, and clients regarding drawing requirements.
• Incorporate site measurements, technical clarifications, RFIs, and approved modifications into drawings.
• Revise drawings based on consultant/client comments and ensure timely resubmission.
• Support site teams by providing clarification on drawings, dimensions, connections, and installation details.
• Ensure the latest approved drawings are communicated to relevant project and production teams.

Material Take-Off & Documentation

• Prepare material take-offs based on approved drawings and project requirements.
• Assist with BOQ preparation and material quantity calculations when required.
• Maintain accurate drawing registers, revision records, and technical documentation.
• Ensure proper document control and version management for all drawings.
• Maintain organized digital records of approved, revised, and superseded drawings.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure drawings comply with project specifications, approved design requirements, UAE construction standards, and applicable industry practices.
• Check drawings for dimensional accuracy, clashes, constructability, and completeness before submission.
• Coordinate with QA/QC and engineering teams to address drawing-related quality issues.
• Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail throughout the drafting and detailing process.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Drafting, or a related technical discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience as a Draftsman within structural steel, metal fabrication, aluminium, architectural metalwork, or construction.
• Strong hands-on experience preparing shop and fabrication drawings.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential.
• Good working knowledge of Tekla Structures or similar steel detailing software.
• Strong understanding of structural steel connections, welding symbols, fabrication methods, and installation requirements.
• Experience with aluminium and miscellaneous metal works will be an advantage.
• UAE construction and fabrication experience is preferred.
• Candidates available in the UAE and able to join on short notice will be preferred.
